Lenovo X41 Tablet PC Video Review

- Rob Bushway

In this video review, I take an in-depth look at the Lenovo X41 Tablet PC, the pen, the batteries, docking station, and the carrying case.

I’ve used quite a few Tablet PCs over the past 3 years, and the Lenovo remains my favorite convertible for many reasons that I cover in the video. The overall experience of the X41, for me, outweighs the better performing convertible tablet pcs out there. I look forward to what Lenovo does with the next version of this tablet and other tablet pcs they come out with.

In a couple of instances, I refer to some things on the screen when the video camera was zoomed too tightly to capture it. My apologies.

  • Watch the video ( 29 minutes, 98mb, Flash Video format )
  • Watch the X41 commercial
  • Visit the Lenovo site

Starting price: $1599

Have you guys considered making these videos available for direct download? Sometimes the viewing speed is slow and it makes the video almost impossible to watch. Also, I don't always have a good connection when I have free time to view. Just a thought.XYCH6

Thanks Rob!
Once again, a great review!
How's the viewing angle/screen quality and overall speed compared to LE1600?

The LE1600 has the X41 beat, but the screen is not that bad at all. certainly better than the original M200

Dear Rob,

THANKS for the time spent on these videos and this website. A lot of information and learned many things from you.

I wonder if you can share your experience in terms of real estate between the X41 and the LS800? I am considering the X41 and the P1510D. Price and physical features aside, how would you compare the screen size. I mean did you find wanting more screen space when using the LS800? Way the screen size impede you in any way?

Basically, I will be using the tablet for reading pdf files and inking some notes. Primarly through OneNote and secondly through TEO.

Screen size is the only factor that is causing me to hesitate on my purchase decision.

Regards,
Nick

When using the LS800, there were times that I wanted more real estate, primarily when I was programming - lots of tool bars, etc.

If you are primarily using for reading PDF and inking notes, then the LS800 would be a very nice solution. I was very surprised at how much real estate I had. I expected things to be much more cramped than they were with the 800 x 600 resolution.

Dear Rob,

Thank you for the quick responce and insight. Just read you post on an upcoming P1510D review. I will hold off on buying until after I see your review.

With appreciation,

Rob,

Is the hard drive in an area where it can be replaced?

On the Levono web site, it looks as if the first 512 of memory is on the system board and there is one slot available to add additional memory. Does this sound correct?

And what kind of times are you getting out of each of the batteries (standard vs extended vs wedge)?

Thanks,
Cary

Cary:

The memory configuration is correct - there is only one slot. the system slot has 512mb in it.

The harddrive is accessible for upgrades.

I'm getting about 4 - 5 hours out of the extended. The standard gives me 2.5 The wedge gives me about 2.5 - all rough

Rob,

Thanks for the update. I like the idea of being able to upgrade myself. I upgraded the memory and hard disk on my M200. In fact, I'm currently looking for a replacement for my M200 and would like to be able to replace the hard disk in it with the original and put the newer 100G 7200rpm drive in the replacement tablet. If they used the same memory, I could take the 1G memory stick out and use it also.

I liked the feel and size of the X41. I was looking at possibly replacing the M200 with a slate. But after having played with the X41 I think it might be a better option. The X41 seems very slim and I like the wedge shape. And the wide viewing angle solves the meeting problem.

I'm currently getting about 3.5 hours from my M200 with Wifi on. So I don't want to go to anything less. I had an eo on order to try it out, but after hearing all the battery problems I canceled the order.

One of the things that I hate about the tablet experience is the tip. I think ink should be more natural like in Onenote or Journal. After looking at the video you did on the P1510, it looks like RitePen might be a nice addition to the tablet. It would allow me to be inking this response instead of having to use the keyboard.

I also would like to vote for downloadable videos. I like to save some of the reviews and demos I see so that I can go back and review them again. Right now I have a collection of Office 2007 and tablet reviews saved that I go back and review occasionally.

Keep up the good work,
Cary

Rob - thanks for the great videos - they're very useful in making a decision about which one to purchase.

Is there anywhere on your site I can download a wmv version of the X41 video. I have difficulties watching the streamed Flash version.

Thanks.

I am working on converting all the flv videos to wmv's. It'll be a week or so before that gets done, though.
