Microsoft Drops Prices On Some Variants of Vista

- Warner Crocker

Vista logoHuh? Microsoft has pulled an unprecedented move by dropping the prices on a couple of variants of the Vista operating system. Vista Ultimate will drop from $399 to $319. The Vista Ultimate upgrade drops from $259 to $219. Vista Home Premium upgrade will drop from $159 to $129. Given that there really has been no real “ultimate” in Vista Ultimate, I guess on some level this makes some sense to somebody, but in the end retail customers will get an opportunity to save some money.

meh, what they should do is drop all the other variants and drop the ultimate price down to the home basic price...

I agree. There should only be one, no more than two versions of any OS.

In Microsoft's case: a home version and a business version. The home version would have all the whiz-bang eye candy and media stuff while the business version would have better security and interlink with servers.

Oh right, Microsoft wants us all to have Servers at home. So, it's back to one OS at Home Basic price :D

I think most people are confused as there are so many versions of Vista
and problems with compatability.
Since our expensive business programs will no longer work in Vista, most don't want to re-purchase said expensive programs just to get them to run in Vista.

In addition SP1 is still not officially released and Vista remains a resources hungry system. Consumers (but also customers) want good quality for a good price... Any other flavor of this rather simple system is bound to fail, even with a dominant market position.

Must be my browser font, but I could have sworn the headline said "vagrants of Vista"
confused
