Microsoft Resumes XP SP3 and Vista SP1 Updates

- Warner Crocker

Last week came word that Microsoft had to delay the release of XP SP3 and Vista SP1 due to some complications with the Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System.

Well, it looks like the issues have been worked out temporarily and the service packs will now be available again via Windows Update. Microsoft developed a filter that will prohibit machines running Dynamics RMS from installing either of the two updates. Microsoft is still working on a fix that will resolve the issue completely.

After SP2 installed SP3 was offered. This was surprising since the SP3 download overview says that SP3 updates not only SP2 but also SP1 or original XP.

I'd include the Microsoft documentation hyperlink, but when I tried to do so my comment was deleted.

(When you get the red message "Your comment has been received and is under review for potential violation of site guidelines. Do not re-submit." it means that the comment was deteted already and you need to resubmit. I'd include the GBM forum hyperlink that documents that issue but that would also get this message deleted.)
