More Delays for ModBook

- Warner Crocker

Mb_tallThis won’t be welcome news to those waiting for the ModBook. Apparently those looking for a little Tablet-Mac action will have to wait a bit longer. Axiotron and Other World Computing are now saying that there is another delay, this time until the 4th Quarter of 2007. Although you can still pre-order, which seems a bit odd with that sort of delay.

If you recall the ModBook was previously delayed from its intitial launch target with news that they were increasing the pressure sensitivity. That delayed May 2007 target has now come and gone and it looks like there will be more wait and see mode ahead. I won’t use the “v” word yet. But I’m getting close.

By the time this thing gets into the hands of people, the next generation of Mac books will be out.

Yeah, it and will be swallowed in the deluge.

The Modbook was the ONLY thing that would ever make me consider switching to Mac.

Hope to see it one day.

I'm wondering if the delay has anything to do with when Lepoard ships (October/November)? I seem to recall reading somewhere that the screen rotation may be dependent on that verison of OS X.

Screen rotation can be achieved in Tiger under monitor preferences. That isn't the reason for the delay. The excuse now is a "parts shortage". One wonders if the next problem will be a "shipping container shortage". I ordered one in January and I just cancelled. There was no notification of this latest (and 3rd, 4th?) delay. If they cannot be professional enough to launch on time or even to inform their users of this latest delay, then how much faith can one put in their product or their service after (and if) final delivery happens. Nice idea. Maybe a company that’s got it’s act together can come up with one. As for Axiotron/OWC? Not a chance. This is now sadly in the category of "vaporware".
