Motion LE1700 Tablet PC specs found on FCC

- Rob Bushway

GottaBeMobile.com reader robphy has done some sleuthing and found the specs for Motion Computing’s newest Tablet PC, the LE1700, via the FCC site. Pictures from FCC below. Great work, robphy.

If these specs are true, Motion has again set the bar in a number areas:

  • SXGA screen – would be the first slate on the market with SXGA
  • Core 2 Duo – would be the first slate on the market with Core 2 Duo
  • Integrated WWAN ( antenna is flush with casing - very nice! ). First slate, I believe, to offer integrated WWAN.

In addition, according to these FCC specs, they are offering a  dual mode touch / active digtizer feature, what Motion is apparently calling WriteTouch. If these specs hold true when announcment time comes, Motion clearly listened to customer feedback when designing the LE1700. I’d expect this slate tablet pc to be quite popular. No official word on an announcement date. Stay tuned….

Sounds like what I've been waiting for.
The first Tablet PC to catch my attention since the M200. I thought the M200 would be my last.

It will be nice to have a Tablet that doesn't weigh four pounds, and leaves the keyboard behind. With SXGA, I'd be able to browse the web and read PDF documents.

Oh, I'm going to go tell the wife that I need to upgrade my M1400 as soon as this hits the streets!

Any indication as to whether the WriteTouch display is XGA or SXGA+?

According to the fcc specs, there is only one resolution listed - SXGA

AAh! My head just exploded!
I hope the dual touch isn't Vista-exclusive.
I want to keep XP!!! Doesn't the new Sahara sport dual touch / digitizer & core 2 duo?

The Sahara is Core Duo, but it was the first slate to market with dual mode touch / active.

About time they've said something!

Couldn't have been my post and posts of others?

Now if they just say something about an upgrade to the LS800, my tax return money needs something to do :P

...And the Sahara includes an XP-compatible touch screen driver, so that functionality is NOT Vista-exclusive...!

Aaron, they *didn't* say anything... a plucky sleuth found this info by accident. In fact, Motion is still silent about this.

In fact, all of this info is based on draft documentation.... it's possible the configuration could have changed a bit since the FCC approved the radio, although unlikely.

So who knows what's up with the LE1700 and, more importantly, when it will go on sale.

The Santa Rosa chips due out next month or two was too much to ask for it seems. Sorry to cast a dark cloud on this joyous occasion.

I heard there will be an announcement on Monday about a new Tablet, I bet it will be the 1700.

I see they chose to use that terrible slide down button again for on/off. Was hoping they changed that. The bump case side covering half covers it and makes it difficult to get a finger on it. Not too mention the spring on it makes it tough to pull down with the case hiding it.

WWAN integrated. How would that affect my current use of Verizon EVDO Rev 2 PC card? If they chose a carrier like Sprint to hook up am I dead or does integrated WWAN mean it would univerally work with any of the carriers that offer that service?

Sounds good.
In addition to all as listed, I want it to have an LED screen, a long-lasting battery, a dvd, and a detachable keyboard like the previous HP tablets.

Finally Motion will win me back! Gave up my beloved M1200 for the SXGA resolution of the Toshiba M200, and have been waiting ever since for Motion to make me a slate with that resolution! Remember Rob? And the addition of a touch screen without giving up an active digitizer -- Tablet PC heaven for me. Thanks for this wonderful and encouraging news.
