MusicReader Demo using Lenovo Tablet PC's

- Matt Faulkner

The Tablet Education Blog links to a YouTube video showing some Lenovo Tablet PC's and some touchscreens from A1 Touch.  Looks kind of cool how they use the touchscreen and the Tablet PC's to flip pages of music and also select new songs.

MusicReader is software that in combination with a Tablet PC should offer the solution for the problems musicians have with (paper) sheet music. These are problems of individual musicians as well as problems in ensembles and orchestras. The turning of pages is for example easier and the conductor can annotate the parts of the musicians remotely. MusicReader also anticipates on the developments of digital sheet music, more and more sheet music becomes available in digital form.

There's some interaction with the tablet a ways in - beginning around 5:10 on the countdown timer.

It's interesting the pianist has to read the music off at 90 degrees to the keyboard. See time 2:50.

One of the things I remember from band practice is the sound of a music stand falling over occasionally. I guess this would be get a bit more attention!

This is an interesting application, all right.

I would be concerned that the battery would die in the middle of a symphony.

I have done this some with guitar music. Instead of printing it off the web, I can pull it up on my tablet to view and play. Somebody better start producing longer lasting batteries. :)

I wonder, though, how much noise would the fans of an orchestra outfitted with tablets produce in a music hall?

I use my Lenovo to play sheet music on my piano. it's great, but i am looking for somekind of external usb device that will allow me turn the pages without moving my hands from the keys. All in all this is the way to go.

i've also learned a couple of new songs by watching people on youtube.

I dream of a future where your tablet/music reading device would be able to connect you to other musicians on the net. All the while being able to translate in realtime the composition that you and your friend are doing.

Real Time Socia Networking Music composition.

drool....
