Oh how the Tablet faithful have fallen ....!

Loren, oh Loren (Heiny). It is a sad day when the Tablet faithful fall away. Especially when it is one of the members of the First Family of Tablet! Loren Heiny is in serious danger of being lured to the Dark Side (Macintosh of course). All the news blurb about Apple's "Bootcamp" enticed him to load up the Tablet PC OS and a Wacom tablet to give it a try.

I'm sad to report it, but you have to look here to see what he has done. Here is a bit of hios rambling and jumbled thoughts:

"Yep, this post is being written on an iMac. I successfully installed the Tablet PC OS this morning using Apple's Boot Camp and the Tablet PC OS from my MSDN subscription. I'm using a Wacom Graphire3 Tablet for the digitizer. For the most part the Tablet OS is running as expected, although as you can tell from the drawing above that I created on the iMac, I am running into some issues. For instance, the ink is not being smoothed out as it is being drawn. Normally ink on a Tablet PC is much smoother than this. I think this is a driver issue. Similarly, the Tablet Input Panel (TIP) does not appear when hovering over editable fields. I can bring up the TIP using the TIP button in the task bar, however, and the handwriting recognition appears to be working just fine. I'm guessing I don't have everything installed correctly and that's why the TIP isn't appearing on hover."

It starts with a small step like this Loren. Before you know it you are on www.apple.com with credit card in hand. The only hope here is that he was convicted enough to IM me and admit, "I just had to try this". Don't worry folks, I'll keep tabs on him, make sure he does not stray too far.

Well, I think Mac owners have a bad case of "Tablet Envy" going. :-)

Can't wait till Rob gets back from his skiing weekend and starts insulting me on this post. He's an Apple Fanboy ya know!!

C'mon Rob, give it your best shot!!!

WTF? Hmm Are people into Mac's computer/design or into their OS? I always thought they hated Windows and wanted OSX/OSTiger? Why not just buy a Tablet PC instead of loading Windows into a Mac computer???? I see this as almost a pointless and dumb approach, you still have to use the Wacom's external USB pad anyway (Can't you already do that on a MAC?!?!). Guess people have too much these days?
LMAO

LMAO, as a developer sometimes I use a desktop system for Tablet PC development. Why? Because usually I can get more horsepower, storage, and display real-estate for less than I'd pay for a Tablet. There's nothing like developing on the actual device to see what an application will be like, but not all development has to be done that way. Since the Intel Macs can now run Windows, why not consider the Apple systems along with the other brands on the market?

In terms of the fact that Apple already has "ink support" via it's InkWell technology, it's very interesting to see the two OSes running on the same box, with the same digitizer, and see how significantly different the two are at handling ink. I have significantly better success with the Tablet PC's handwriting recognition than Apple's InkWell technology, for instance.

good going, Loren. I'm with Warner. This is a very good thing, and it won't be too long before we are inking on iMac tablet running windows. Dennis' world will open up once he takes the blinders off,

Blinders? Who has blinders?

Eyes wide open my friend. I love Mac's, just can't make a living with them. And besides, running XP/Tablet on a Mac is like cheating man. Not the same.........

We must save him from the Dark Side...I say we start with the credit card. I can find some uses for it. UMPCs for everyone? :) Ha Ha.
