On Screen Keyboard for the Q1 Ultra Ultra Mobile PC

- Matt Faulkner

CIMG0914 There was a post in the forums this morning about an on screen keyboard option for the Samsung Q1 Ultra Ultra Mobile PC and since I have the Q1 Ultra, I decided to give it a try.  After downloading the application all you have to do is run the .exe file.  Seems like the program is Q1U specific, so if you don't have one, you might stay away for now - but if you do, once you hit the right Shift key on the keyboard the program comes up and you are good to go!!  It's very basic, but that works in this situation and it works for typing as well...  I put the Q1 Ultra on my desk and decided to try and type that way...  Very cool to me - I could type on the screen like I was typing on a regular keyboard!  I would love this program for the R2H I have...  The site doesn't give much information on the developer or any way to make suggestions...  Maybe if you post in the forums the developer will be reading!

You can get the program from this link.

So how do I see behind the keyboard to type? I downloaded it and it took up entire umpc screen. I could see document to type in.

Yeah - i used it in IE7 so it would pop up the text in front of the keyboard... My first suggestion to the developter (if we can find them) would be to add a text box to the on-screen display so you can see what is being typed....

It's works on my notebook with vista, so it should work with other UMPCs. Can you set the transparency? That may help.

Hi Guys,

I am the developer for this keyboard. I created it out of frustration when using Q1Ultra. The keyboard is quite basic as you can see. But it serves to remove some immediate limitations on the Q1U. I plan to develop the keyboard further. But this will be done along other things I am doing. So please check my website occasionally for later versions.

When using the touch screen keyboard, you need to use the right shift key on the Q1U's physical keyboard to hide or to pop up the touch screen keyboard. Obviously this arrangement makes it very easy to use on the Q1U but impossible to use on other UMPC's. This is an area I will have to look into.

In the mean time, thank you for your interest in the software. I will be happy to read and respond to your comments here.

Version 7.7.22 of the ZW Keyboard is released. The new version supports activation via mouse action. This make it possible to use the keyboard on many more keyboard-less systems. Although a minimum of 1024x600 resolution is still hard coded in the software at the moment, this limitation will be removed in a future version.
