PC Magazine Reviews OneNote 2007, Kinda, Sorta

- Warner Crocker

Well it is isn’t what I would call a full-bodied review, but at least it is something. PC Magazine takes a cursory look at OneNote 2007 and runs through the highlights of this excellent program. It is a typical PC Mag quick look that tells you the reviewer really didn’t spend much time with the application, but at least it is some Ink for this Ink Enabled application. I’m mentioning it here because I remain puzzled why there is absolutely zero marketing being done on OneNote 2007 by Microsoft. Sure, it is a great application for the Tablet PC, but it is also an excellent application for non-Tablets as well. I’m really surprised by the lack of noise about this excellent application.

C'mon Warner, now you're just baiting me into commenting on how Microsoft has great products supported by poor marketing. I should just keep a forum thread running with that mantra.

I agree Sumocat! It is ridiculous the lack of marketing Microsoft does while saying it is up to thier OEMs. Talk about bass-ackward.

Coke doesn't wait for the people who make their bottles for them to advertise like crazy how good Coke is, neither should Microsoft rely on their OEMs. Especially when things like One Note, Outlook, and others are things that set Microsoft apart from just being a company that makes an operating system.

Say what you will about Vista, but the only reason I like Windows is because of the great applications that run on it like One Note and Outlook; applications that are heads and shoulders above anything else running on any other OS IMHO.

MS is getting way too comfortable. Let someone else come up with a real Outlook competitor and Microsoft will be behind the 8 ball.

The iPhone is a perfect example. Windows Mobile has been able to do all of that stuff for years but most people don't know since MS has done very little to let them know. Now the iPhone is seen as "innovative" and all of us WinMo users going back to the PocketPC are saying "Huh?" "Touch?" "Media Player?" "Predictive text entry?" "Internet Browser?" "Phone Calls?" We've been able to do all of those things for years already.

It's not like Microsoft can't afford a few serious marketing campaigns.

Hey all,

I completely agree with the lack of marketing done for OneNote. I downloaded the Office 2007 beta test last year (april/may/junish, whenever that was) played with it a little, and fell in love!!! I didn't even have laptop at that time, but the program made me realize just how functional I could be. It even was the first driving force to convince me to buy a tablet pc. Waiting on the C-140X (I'm a student), hopefully it will be here soon so I can enjoy the complimentary OneNote.

Anyway, point of this all, if Microsoft would do a little more they could really get it out there. I try to tell all of my student friends about it, because its just that worth while.
