Scary Security Threat Unveiled At Black Hat

- Warner Crocker

004414-rootWe don’t post a lot of security related issues here on GBM, but this one is worth noting. Jon Ellch and David Maynor unveiled a new threat to any device with any operating system (Mac, PC, Linux) that has a wireless card at the current Black Hat Conference. Basically the essence of the threat is really scary because all that needs to happen to be exposed to the vulnerability is that the wireless card needs to be turned on. You can read much more about his on Brian Krebs’ Security Fix column in the Washington Post, (and even see a video of the hack in action,) as well as on just about any news channel you can find today. Since the demo was performed on a Mac, I wonder if we’ll see any new “I’m a Mac” commercials featuring security comparisons rolling out soon.
