Some More Hands on Reporting of the HTC Shift

- Warner Crocker

083107_1501_SneakPeakat1Not from Hugo, but from Kaz911 Rescue Service comes some more quick hands on reporting of the HTC Shift. He has some interesting info on Windows Mobile: the prototype he worked with had a limited edition of Windows Mobile 6, none of the mobile office apps. He also verifies the native screen resolution at 800 x 480 and that at 1024 x 600 the screen “is a bit muddy to look at.” He also says a rumor is floating around that it may have some form of multi-touch. Read more of his impressions here.

It is disappointing about the screen rez as well as the possibility that the WM6 side may not have Mobile office apps loaded. The Shift has some amazing potential. I am confused about the touch capability. Is the Shift screen not touch already ??? HTC please listen to you customers. 1. Higher rez screen. 2. Touch screen with option for Wacom pen. 3. WM6 Full Edition with access to the device hard drive. 4. Some way for WM6 & Outlook on the Vista side to sync or share Contacts, Mail, Calendar & Task. Keep up the good work HTC.

It had so much promise but it looks like its DOA .. the sub standard 800x480 .. lack of a proper WM6 install.

I would have bought this but no way now ..

The big question remains what difference will exist between the prototype that is being tested by members of the community versus the real thing that will be announced in another week or so. Hopefully, HTC will wisen up to the consumer demand and progress of the market in terms of video resolution and SSD. Also, it just doesn't make any sense to have WM6 without any of the features of the platform, so hopefully the real thing will have the full version.

Everybody has to hold their breath for a week to get the answers.

Well then, it seems to me that HTC is already aware of the issues and opinions of the user community, their eventual customers. Perhaps they will bring a welcome surprise at this Gitex.
