TabletBible for OneNote 2007 coming soon

- Rob Bushway

Many of you have expressed interest in getting the Bibles that I’ve created for GoBinder into a OneNote file format. Some early testing with beta users proved that the format and structure would work and be ideal for taking notes on the Bible text, but that we would need to wait until the public beta for some package and deployment fixes to be made by Microsoft.

Well, with the public beta release of OneNote 2007 last week, I’ve now moved passed the testing stages and into production of the English Standard Version for OneNote 2007 and New King James Version for OneNote 2007. I should have these completed by July 1. You will finally be able to ink and take notes directly on to your Bible in OneNote in modern translations. Just like the GoBinder versions, the OneNote versions will also be free.

I’ll post an update here when they are done and you can also check out the status at www.TabletBible.com.

Download the sample Notebook package at http://www.tabletbible.com/esv.onepkg . Only Genesis, Exodus, and Leviticus are implemented right now. After downloading, double-click to install the Notebook. OneNote 2007 is required.

Good news, indeed. Just wondering if you plan to include full citations at the head of every verse (for better searching -- e.g., Rev. 1:3, Rev. 1:4, etc.). This would be somewhat unsightly, and make the file longer, of course, but if the citation fonts are small and superscripted it won't be too distracting (and this is the format for the New American Standard Version, though it's not a good idea to print the verses as individual units instead of paragraphs). Any chance you could include some screenshots before July 1 so we can give you some feedback?

P.s.: sorry if this is posted twice. It's kind of hard to read the codes.

Great news Rob. Thanks for this labor of love.

it won't have full citations. I'll be using the format that I've already used for the GoBinder Bibles - see www.TabletBible.com . Those formats were pretty well thought out and user tested, so I won't be redoing anything.

The good news about OneNote is that you will be able to create your own cross reference lining using the hyperlinking feature.

Yes, but the ability to search quickly for a particular Bible verse is an absolutely essential feature. I have an ESV file with the full citations (via a BibleWorks 7.0 export). Since you have already received permission to use the ESV (I presume), I'd be happy to e-mail it to you. Just a thought. And if I remember correctly (from www.tabletbible.com), the chapters for the various books of the Bible were spread out over several pages. This is problematic for a variety of reasons. Would it be too much trouble to reformat the data so that each chapter appears on only one OneNote page? Or maybe this is just an idiosyncratic preference that no one else shares.

When printed to OneNote, each chapter is stored on its own page, but there is white space between footnotes for notetaking purposes. beta users who have used this in OneNote actually like it this way. It gives them plenty room for inking, etc.

Without some major rework, I'm going to be unable to put full citatations at the verse level.

Here is a sample of the ESV and how I am working it. After downloading it, just double click on the package file and it will get installed to OneNote 2007.

From the inception of this program several years ago, it was never intended to be a Bible study replacement tool. It was meant to be used to replace a paper version, but very friendly to the eye, optimized for reading, and be optimized for ink notetaking.

Just wondering, but are the imported pages of the ESV printouts because of copyright issues (in other words, to prevent "unauthorized" editing, although sometimes many Bible users are dissatisfied with a particular translation, and prefer a program with the ability to edit or revise a particular word or phrase)?
