TabletKiosk Sahara i440D Tablet PC Unboxing

- Rob Bushway

John Hill, of Allegiance Technology Partners, sent me a brand new, unopened TabletKiosk Sahara i440D Tablet PC. I captured the unboxing, gave a quick tour of the machine, and demonstrated how the multi-mode touch features work in the following 2-part videos. This is a very nice Core Duo slate Tablet PC that should sell quite well.  With a few features like manually controlling touch / active mode, FireWire, and an eSATA port, the i440D definitely has a few advantages over other slates on the market. The version I unboxed has Windows XP Tablet Edition.

If you are interested in purchasing the Sahara i440D Tablet PC or would like to demo this unit for yourself, visit Allegiance Technologies Partners. Also, be sure to check out Hugo Ortega's InkShow of the Sahara.

That stylus looks like the same one I have (5 of) for my electrovaya. Does anyone know anything about where the stylii come from? After this review, I am almost certain that I am getting this tablet in the next month, and I would be very pleased if I could just plan on using my extra stylii as backups for the new slate.

Thanks for the review!

Hello Everybody,

Rob, glad to hear that you like the Sahara i440D - the Stylus is a standard Wacom OEM Stylus and the same one as the Toshiba units use. Please let John at Allegiance Tech. or ourselves know if you have any other questions.

Martin - can you speak to the difference in regular and high capacity battery? Both in expected run-time and impact on the style of the device? Does the extended battery bump out?

Hello Joe,

The design for the Extended Life battery calls for the unit to mount to the back of the Sahara system and cover the complete external casing equally, adding about 1/2" to the thickness to the system and adding aprox 1/2 lb in weight. The Battery design will pass through USB and Firewire via the docking connector to the bottom edge of the extended life battery, the casing will also have a 75mm VESA bolt pattern to allow mounting of the unit with the extended life battery attached to the unit.

I hope this explanation is clear enough. If you have other questions, please let us know.
