The RazorBook 400 Mini Notebook PC from 3K Computers

- Rob Bushway

3K RazorBook 400Those interested in ultra-portable notebooks should take a look at the RazorBook 400 Mini Notebook PC from 3K Computers. At $399, it is priced similarly to Asus' 4G Eee PC and has many of the same specs like a 4 gb solid state drive, Linux, and a 7" screen. The downside: it has a meager 400 mhz processor compared to the Asus Eee PC's 900 mhz.

Someone I know got a 4 GB Asus Eee computer today and we tried to update it from XP SP2 to SP3. There wasn't enough room on the drive, even after removing Adobe Reader and programs for reading Office 2007 and PowerPoint files.

I wonder what people are going to do about this - who would want a computer that can't get Windows Updates?

There is some interesting discussion on potential workarounds on various Web sites, but I know that including the hyperlinks would result in my post getting dinged so I leave it to others to explore for themselves. But beware - 4 GB is very confining.
