Trusted Reviews Takes a Look At The Toshiba M700

- Matt Faulkner

toshiba m700 Trusted Reviews has their hands on an Toshiba M700 Tablet PC.  The review takes a good walk thru over the whole device inside and out.  What makes this review a better read - the fact that it's done by somebody that isn't really 'into' Tablet PC's and they are the ones that have their hands on it. The first paragraph tells the story of their thoughts on Tablet PC's...

I've never been completely convinced by the Tablet PC concept. It may look good in medical dramas and sci-fi shows when characters busily tap away at tablet devices, but you have to remember one thing about that - they're not doing anything! If you've ever actually tried to control a PC in portrait tablet mode you'll be well aware that it's far from a simple procedure. The other issue I have is that Tablet PCs aren't particularly light either, so if you're planning to spend your entire day wandering around work holding one like a clipboard, you might want to put some time in at the gym first. It's therefore with some trepidation that I'm looking at the Portégé M700 - Toshiba's latest thin and light Tablet notebook

Head over to Trusted Reviews and check out the whole review.

I think the only point he makes that I even sort-of agree with relates to the keyboard.

Otherwise, I hate reading Tablet reviews by "anti" Tablet users. I find the statement that "If you've ever actually tried to control a PC in portrait tablet mode you'll be well aware that it's far from a simple procedure," to be particularly absurd. Statements like that make me feel sorry for his IT guy, because he probably pesters them with all sorts of issues.

Or maybe I'm just nuts and set in my ways.

GT2L: The problem with these kinds of reviews is not so much that the authors are anti-tablet, but that they are almost always dedicated typist. These guys make their living sitting at flat surfaces, typing all day. Their jobs require neither mobility nor pen input, so they literally can't see any use for either. It's kind of sad really, especially since they, as writers, should at least recognize the merits of old-school, mark-up editing.

Got to say I have loved the flexibility of the tablet format since my M200 purchase a few years ago through M400 to M700. Being able to ink notes, markups on documents and PDFs, flip a screen around to show a client a presentation, and my favourite, put the keyboard to the rear with the screen facing you to watch a movie on a cramped train/airline table :-)

Preaching to the converted I know.

So Aaron, got Vista on that thing yet? Trust me, you'll like it on the M700. <runs away and hides> ;-)
