Vista Handwriting Recognition vs Mac OS X InkWell Handwriting Recognition

- Rob Bushway

GottaBeMobile.com forum member Shogmaster has produced a great video demonstrating the differences between Vista based handwriting recognition using a Toshiba R25 Tablet PC  and a MacPro running Leopard OS X using InkWell plus a Wacom PenPartner tablet. It is pretty clear, Apple has a long ways to go to catch up to Microsoft in the recognition department.

I use the handwriting recognition so sparingly (almost never) that the difference wouldn't matter to me. As long as I can take notes in ink and ink up my presentations, I'm good. So, I say to bring on the Apple Tablet (or whatever it'll be called).

Not the most direct comparison since writing on a non-screen tablet is more difficult than writing on a surface where you can see your handwriting. Perhaps Apple can hook Shogmaster up with a Wacom Cintiq (or their secret new Mac Tablet) so we can see a true head-to-head. :)

My two cents, I am with Eric on this. I never use the handwriting recognition.

I use the tablet to keep notes in my own handwriting together with Snipping Tool to get information from 3D modeler Inventor and Solid Works. What I really need is a decent video system so I can move, spin 3D assemblies, and sub-asemblies with hundreds of parts.
I have been using the M200.
Looking forward to the Apple Tablet, hope it has a decent video.

Pretty good. However M$ has been working on this stuff for A LONG time. Their ink and voice reco technology is getting pretty good. However, how much of it is REALLY utilized? I'm sure it will be more as we moved onto tablets or large deviced resembling 8 or 10 inch iPhones with voice reco and ink tech, but that is a ways off and I'm sure apple is going to sit back and do nothing.

Just my two cents.
