Will We See Windows 7 At All Things Digital Conference?

- Warner Crocker

Windows7Long Zheng of istartedsomething thinks we might hear and/or see the first public info about Windows 7 at D6: The All Things Digital Conference on May 27. On the scale of rumors, I’m not sure if this rates up there with Apple Tablet rumors in terms of accuracy or speculation, but this is from a source and there isn’t any confirmation anywhere else, so keep that in mind. One thing is for certain though Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer will appear together and I’m sure some of what they will be talking about his Bill’s imminent departure.

If I were MS, I'd get Win 7 working ASAP. Vista, IMO, is still a waste of $$ that didn't do any of the good stuff it was supposed to do. Office 07 also is a dud, IMO (again, not worth the upgrade). So, MS is batting 0 for 2 in their last two releases, with only OneNote being innovative, clever, and useful in the past 3 years. They need to make something that drives it's own sales, as in the old days, instead of forcing us to change because they want us to have their 'new and improved' software. Windows and Office upgrade sales remind me of a line from Blazing Saddles: "People should be leaving Rock Ridge, instead their staying in droves." Yes, people should be upgrading their Windows, yet their staying in droves.

Sorry to be disagreeable, Eric, but I'm very happy with Vista and Office 2007. A year ago my employer made these available to us at work, and my experience was positive enough to convince me to spend my own $$$ to upgrade my home machine, which I just finished doing. I really like how much faster and better my 3-yr old machine runs on Vista compared to XP SP3. No, I'm not kidding. I don't understand all of the griping and complaining about Vista; my own experience has been extremely positive. And nobody is forcing you to change - if you prefer XP and Office 2003 then stick with them.
