A $99 netbook deserves a song

Well, we’ve been chasing this ever since the OLPC project announced their $100 laptop that turned out to be $200, and now thanks to low-cost, green computing specialist Cherrypal, there finally is a netbook that breaks the $100 barrier without subsidies. I’m so happy, I could sing…

That reminds me, the netbook is called “Africa” and, I must say, it looks like it costs $99. Unnamed 400MHz processor, 256MB memory, 2GB flash, 7″ screen, Linux or Windows CE, it’s pretty unimpressive and less powerful than the latest handhelds, but what do you expect for $99?

All kidding aside, I really commend their effort with trying to bridge the digital divide in our world. Let’s not forget, bringing computers to the poor is what started the netbook craze in the first place. Glad to see that goal hasn’t been completely forgotten.
