Acer Reveals Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Plans

Not wanting to keep its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean plans a secret any longer, Acer today confirmed Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for several of its devices and also announced several that will not be getting the update.

According to ComputerWorld, Acer has confirmed Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates for three of its tablets including the Iconia Tab A110, Iconia Tab A210, and Iconia Tab A510.

Those will come in addition to the Iconia Tab A700 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update that started rolling out last week to customers.

The Iconia Tab A110 will get Jelly Bean.

Acer currently has not put a timetable on when owners of those three tablets can expect to see the updates, only going as far as to say that the updates will be coming at some point down the road.

Addtionally, Acer confirmed that some of its devices won’t be getting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Specifically, the Iconia Tab A100, Iconia Tab A200, and Iconia Tab A500 will not be getting the upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, at least not officially.

Owners of the tablets might be able to root and flash Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROMs down the road but an official roll out is not in the cards for the trio of tablets.

While the news is bad for some owners, it’s nice that Acer decided to fill owners in on the details of the updates this early on in the game instead of dragging it out any longer.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is going to be a vast improvement over Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for owners of these tablet devices as it brings a new, smoother UI, an improved calendar and browser, more camera options, Google Now and more.

The updates will more than likely bring bug fixes for all three devices as well though Acer has not said what those might entail.
