A Better Windows Store

A Better Windows Store

This one's a bit up in the air currently. The Windows Store in Windows 10 is available, but Microsoft hasn't started letting new apps and games built specifically with the operating system in yet.

We can infer some things from the features Microsoft has built into the store. After three years of trying to convince users to create Windows apps, Microsoft is also embracing games and apps designed with its own apps model. Apps that you currently download from websites that run in the Desktop interface are coming to the Windows Store. Microsoft plans on packaging these apps in games in a way that doesn't require lengthy uninstalls and multiple programs. Theoretically, there's nothing stopping video game developers from listing their titles in the store and making them easier to find.  Web apps will get the same treatment.

Developers who create games with Windows 10 in mind can let their users unlock those same games across Microsoft's different platforms. When you make a purchase through the Store in Windows 10, it can be installed on 10 different devices. The Windows Store still needs a better way to identify what games are compatible with controllers and accessories, but already it's added mandatory ratings for games from the Electronic Safety Ratings Board or ESRB. These ratings make it easier to find games that are family friendly.

Games that you've already installed from other places get their shortcuts added to the Xbox app so you have one destination for gaming on your Windows 10 PC.
