Amazon Prime Customers Get 1 Free Book ‘Rental’ Per Month With Membership

Ahead of availability of the company’s first Android Kindle Fire tablet, Amazon is wooing customers to join its Prime membership program by adding a new feature for avid readers. In addition to long-time favorite features of the Prime program–such as free two-day shipping and access to free streaming video from Amazon’s on-demand library of movies and TV shows–customers can now get up to 1 free book rental per month without any due dates.

According to the company’s press release, “With an Amazon Prime membership, Kindle owners can now choose from thousands of books to borrow for free — including over 100 current and former New York Times Bestsellers — as frequently as a book a month, with no due dates.”

The free book rental applies to the e-ink Kindle models as well, but coupled with the rest of the membership perks should help to make the Kindle Fire an even more attractive offering when compared to other more expensive Android tablets.

The Kindle Fire is priced at an affordable $200 and comes with dual-core processing technology, a customized UI on top of Android 2.3, and access to Amazon’s cloud storage.

I’m sorry, but I think the one book a month thing is a ripoff. If I pay $79, I want to be able to check out more books a month. Like 3 or 4 would be enough, but 1? And you only get the free shipping if you’re buying from Amazon, not the Amazon marketplace. I have a trial membership and you can bet I’ll be cancelling.

Amazon Prime is similar to Netflix, unlimited videos and tv shows, the fact tha amazon prime give you 1 rental book for free each month is a plus, netflix $10 per month, $120 per year.
Amazon Prime also give 2-day shipping for free for purchase in Amazon.com.
I have Netflix and Amazon, I like both a lot because they don’t come with tv ads like other services.
