Amazon is calling “Prime Day” a global shopping event, offering more deals than Black Friday, to millions of shoppers all around the world. It looks to be one of the biggest shopping days of the year, and if the promise of beating Black Friday holds true, this could be a perfect time for buyers to get some new gadgets, the latest smartphone like a Galaxy S6, new 50-inch HDTV, and much much more.

For those who are hearing the news about Amazon’s Prime Day shopping event, but want to know exactly what to expect and who all is eligible, we have all the answers below.

How to Participate

Amazon Prime Day is set to be the biggest shopping day of the year, beating out Black Friday, however it will be online only. One huge caveat to the sale is shoppers will need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber. This is a $99 a year subscription that gives users access to Amazon Instant Video, Amazon Prime Music, Prime Photos, Kindle Owners Lending Library, and free 2-day shipping on millions of items from Amazon.com. Prime members also get 1-day shipping for an insanely cheap $3.99.

I’ve been an Amazon Prime member for nearly six years and love it, and this will be one more reason for those who’ve previously been on the fence, to finally give it a try.

In order to participate in a day of sales bigger than Black Friday, you’ll need to sign up for Prime which is $99 per year, and it will be even less for people in the UK. In the UK shoppers can sign up for Amazon Prime for only £59 (regularly £79) from now until July 8th. Making Prime even cheaper, and giving more people access to all the deals.

“If you’re not already a Prime member, you’ll want to join so you don’t miss out on one of the biggest deals extravaganzas in the world. – Greg Greeley, Vice President Amazon Prime.

When Does it Start?

Amazon Prime day kicks off on July 15th at Midnight, which is when all the deals will go live. Then, Amazon will be offering its usual lightning deals, as well as a collection of more deals, discounts, and savings every 10 minutes. There will also be the usual seven “deals of the day” which will likely be just as awesome as all the other discounts being offered.

Who All Can Buy?

As we mentioned above, you can only participate in Prime Day if you are an Amazon Prime subscriber, but the day of deals is also limited to a few regions around the world.

Prime members in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada and Austria are all eligible for Amazon Prime Day. This covers just about everywhere that Amazon operates, so make sure you’ve signed up for Prime and stay tuned for more details.

Deals to Expect

Amazon confirmed they’ll be offering deals during Prime Day in almost every category from their huge collections of millions of items. The press release specifically mentions deals from dozens of categories including electronics, toys, movies, clothing, patio, lawn and garden, sports and outdoor items and more. Then it goes on to mention items perfect for summer adventures, back-to-school items, toys for road trips, and even everyday essentials. So buyers can get a new smartphone, a big HDTV, bathroom racks, towels, cloths, or even bed sheets all at super low prices.

It sounds like Amazon will be offering savings from any and all categories, with surely enough deals that everyone will be able to find something on sale worth buying. That said, Amazon isn’t announcing any specials or highlight items just yet, but we’re expecting more information and key items to be revealed in the coming days. Typically with sales like Black Friday huge ticket items like TV’s, Xbox One deals, and other eye-grabbing savings are specifically mentioned to help gain attention, and we’re expecting the same thing here.

As the July 15th Prime Day sale nears, stay tuned for more information about what will be offered, and if any huge deals arrive that are worth spending your Black Friday savings on.

Other Details

While we don’t have all the details yet, or know exactly what will be for sale, with a promise to beat out Black Friday this will surely be one of, if not the biggest deals day of the entire year.

Amazon is also hosting a photo content where a few lucky winners will win $10,000 in Amazon Gift cards. It’s called the #PrimeLiving Photo Contest, and here are all the details. Amazon is inviting Prime members to submit a photo visualizing what Prime means to them, and one Prime account in each country where Amazon Prime is available will win $10,000 in gift cards.

For now that’s all we know about the impressive upcoming Amazon Prime Day shopping event, and we’ll update as more information becomes available. We’ve asked Amazon if this will become an annual shopping day, but have yet to get a response. If Amazon Prime Day ends up a huge success, July 15th could become the new online Black Friday each and every year.
