New Android 4.4.3 KitKat Update Release Details Leak

New Android 4.4.3 KitKat update release date details have leaked ahead of what is shaping up to be a busy month for Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat update releases.

Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat have been rolling out since June. The two updates, which are quite similar to one another, have gradually started hitting non-Nexus devices. Motorola and Sony are both rolling out Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates to several of their flagship devices, updates that bring Android 4.4.3 KitKat bug fixes and the Android 4.4.4 KitKat security patch. HTC, on the other hand, is doing something a little bit different.

Instead of pushing Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Android 4.4.3 KitKat’s bug fixes and Android 4.4.4’s security patch, HTC is doing the exact opposite. That is to say that the company is baking the Android 4.4.4 KitKat security patch into the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update for its smartphones.

The company has pushed out several Android 4.4.3 KitKat updates already including upgrades to select HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 users. The HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update is firmly in the lead and has even landed for the Sprint version of the flagship in the United States. AT&T and T-Mobile are up next and it’s possible that the T-Mobile HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update will roll out today.

The bigger picture is a little less clear as HTC has been slow to confirm updates outside of the United States. Thankfully, notorious HTC ROM developer LlabTooFeR has leaked some pertinent Android 4.4.3 KitKat update details for owners of other HTC devices including the HTC One M7, HTC’s flagship smartphone from last year.

According to his new unofficial HTC Android update schedule, the HTC One M7 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update should land for many users in one to two weeks putting it right in the thick of August. This is a detail that has been confirmed by several carriers and it looks like HTC is on schedule with its HTC One M7 Android 4.4.3 roll out.

He also claims that HTC One M7 Dual SIM customers and owners of HTC smartphones released in 2014 including the HTC One mini 2 should get Android 4.4.3 KitKat by mid to late September if all goes according to plan. It’s still not clear if the HTC One mini or the HTC One max, two devices from last year, will get Android 4.4.3 KitKat. It’s possible that both could simply skip to Android L, an update that’s rumored for HTC’s flock of 2013 and 2014 smartphones.

What this means is that these devices should get Android 4.4.3 KitKat before the Android L release. LLabTooFeR’s updated timeline puts HTC’s Android L update somewhere between October and December. HTC confirmed Android L for the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 saying that the update would come within 90 days of the first public release but it did not confirm any specific release dates.

Android L on Android 4.4.4

The Android L release date is still not known though rumors have pointed to an arrival in Q3 or Q4 alongside a new Nexus 8 tablet and perhaps, a new Nexus 6 smartphone from Motorola. Android L will replace Android 4.4 KitKat and deliver a number of new features to Android users and owners of HTC devices. It’s still not clear what HTC has cooked up for Android L though we should see at least some of Google’s features make it through.

While HTC, Motorola and LG continue to push out Android 4.4.3 KitKat and Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrades, LG and Samsung, two of Android’s top manufacturers, remain silent about the updates. Both LG and Samsung are expected to roll out Android L at some point in the future though it’s not clear if they will offer upgrades between now and its arrival.
