Android Honeycomb OS to Launch as Android 2.4 in January?

Published

According to a source, the next version of Android, which will be tablet-optimized, will launch as Android 2.4. Also known as Honeycomb, that operating system was widely believed to launch as Android 3.0, but it looks like Google may be saving the 3.0 number for a bigger update. The current version of Android right now is Android 2.3, which is also known as Gingerbread.

The source says that Honeycomb, or Android 2.4, will launch in February.

There is credence to the rumor as this source is a developer who has worked on several different versions of the Android operating system.

After Honeycomb, Google’s next OS will be Ice Cream, followed by Jellybean.
