Apple Moving Away From Windows Devices for In-Store Sales

Published

on

applepaypdaOne of the delicious ironies in the Apple vs. Microsoft battles looks like it is about to end. Apple store employees have long used Windows based PDA devices for its EasyPay system in its stores. They idea is that roving employees can check you out anywhere in the store and get you on your way. If you’ve ever been to an Apple store, I’m sure you’ve experienced this.

Well, it looks like Apple is planning to transition away from the Windows based devices to using a system run on iPod Touches. Of course that makes practical sense on a lot of levels. But it will bring an end to an intriguing bit of irony.

Hopefully this means they’ll finally put cameras in the iPod touch. They’ll need that or an attachment for barcode scanning.

It will be interesting to see how they make iPod touches PCI compliant.
