Apple Selling Refurbished Retina Display iPads For $50 Off

Published

Users who want to save a bit of money on the newest iPads should check the refurbished section of Apple’s website.

According to 9To5Mac, Apple is now selling refurbished iPads with a $50 cut across all models. The discount cuts 10 percent off the price of the base 16GB iPad, and 6 percent off the 64GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model.

Apple’s refurbished iPads aren’t beat up in any respects. The company replaces the battery, display, and casing of every refurbished device (if needed), so it looks like new. It should work like new as well. The devices also come in the same packaging as new iPads, complete with all the accessories and full one-year warranty.

Aside from the price, a refurbished iPad is indistinguishable from a new iPad. Users have to deal with the knowledge that somebody else had the device before them, but Apple does its best to remove any signs of such.

With the refurbished sales of the new iPad it’s a rather compelling argument against the iPad 2. The iPad 2 Wi-Fi model costs $400, but a refurbished new iPad with Retina Display is just $50 more. That extra $50 also adds more processing power and Siri as soon Apple releases as iOS 6, presumably sometime around September 21.

Some users will still want a brand new iPad, but we for those who want to save every few dollars they can, but still want a new iPad, refurbished is the way to go. Keep in mind, however, that a 16GB iPad isn’t big enough to handle a lot of apps and media.

Users who are thinking about buying a new iPad should probably wait either way, just in case Apple announces a new version with the new dock connector next month. That version, if it exists, will be better equipped to interface with future accessories.
