AT&T Enters Home Security Market With Connected Sensors

Published

To further AT&T‘s vision of the connected lifestyle, the U.S. 4G LTE wireless carrier is looking to enter the home security market with its own prepackaged solutions that will allow smartphone and tablet customers to monitor their homes while away. Though various components of the AT&T package have been available for some time through various separate components, AT&T is looking to bring everything together to make the connected experience affordable. Originally slated to launch in 8 markets, which are yet to be announced, the service will expand to 50 markets by the end of the year.

The solution that AT&T is proposing will combine both home automation as well as home security and remote monitoring. Professional setup and installation is also available, similar to Uverse package for Internet and TV, or advanced users can also opt to setup the solution themselves.

AT&T says that so far, home security has only reached less than 20 percent of existing U.S. households and home automation has an even lower penetration rate at less than 1 percent. The carrier is hoping that the ease of use and more affordable costs will bring these services and features mainstream.

According to the keynote presentation on AT&T’s Digital Life presentation, to make it simple for customers, there will be live customer service. In case there are any incidences, users will be notified via their phones as well as the appropriate emergency services.

At launch, there will be two packages to choose from, a simple package and a smart package. Users can also add and remove bundles as needed making the plans for home automation and security completely customizable and flexible.

In addition to the security features, users can also add a number of smart sensors to their packages to get a complete look at their homes and monitor their homes on their smartphones or tablets when they’re out and away. You can arm and disarm your home while away, view security camera monitors, as well as control your home lighting through AT&T’s complete package on the digital life.

Hopefully AT&T does a better job than what Xfinity has out there! Just another service to get bundled into. If it’s OK with the community, I would like to share an article that might be informative to readers:
