AT&T Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Update Roll Out Restarts

Last week, AT&T and U.S. Cellular suspended their Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates at the behest of Samsung. The carriers weren’t clear on why the updates were suspended only that they were told that they needed to be. Fortunately, there is good news in the air, at least for AT&T Galaxy S4 owners as the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is set to start rolling out once again.

Earlier this month, AT&T started rolling out the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, an update that arrived after the Sprint and Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 upgrades that brought Samsung KNOX and Samsung Galaxy Gear support, amongst other things. However, unlike the Sprint and Verizon roll outs, the AT&T Galaxy S4 update roll out was short lived.

We could see a metal Samsung Galaxy S4 in early 2014.

A few days after the roll out began, we started hearing whispers about the update being pulled for unknown reasons. Those whispers soon turned into a confirmation. A source of ours informed us that the stoppage was not only affecting AT&T but other carriers as well though at the time, we didn’t know exactly who was affected.

A short time later, U.S. Cellular confirmed that its Galaxy S4 update had been halted at Samsung’s request though the carrier, like AT&T, was mum on exactly why the update was pulled though we imagined that it had to do with issues. Earlier this week, we saw T-Mobile finally push out the Android 4.3 update for its Galaxy S4, a sign that things were moving in the right direction.

Sure enough, AT&T has announced that the Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update roll out is back on and that it will be rolling out again today after the initial delay.

It looks like the new build is going to be I337UCUEMK2 and that it will be coming with multiple improvements for those that are touting AT&T’s version of the Galaxy S4. Here is what AT&T mentions specifically, about the update:

  • Android 4.3 OS upgrade (www.android.com/whatsnew)
  • Samsung Galaxy Gear compatibility
  • Drag and drop to uninstall or disable applications
  • Call reliability improvements

While we expect this update to be void of any issues, we do expect AT&T to roll out it out slowly so that it can monitor the situation. That means that some owners might see it push out today while others could be waiting a few days for the prompt to arrive. Users can check for the update in the device’s settings, in the about section.

U.S. Cellular still hasn’t said when it will be pushing out the update again though we imagine that a roll out is extremely close given the success that AT&T seems to have had with its Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 upgrade.
