AT&T Goes 4G with Samsung Infuse Android Galaxy S Smartphone

Published

on

AT&T is now joining rival carriers Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, and Sprint in announcing a 4G smartphone for its network. The carrier is going big with its Samsung Infuse 4G Android smartphone announcement, which is a Galaxy S series variant that will join the Captivate on AT&T’s network. Not a lot of details are available at this time, except that the phone will sport an enhanced Super AMOLED display technology, known as Super AMOLED Plus, on its massive 4.5-inch touchscreen, which apes the 4.3-inch EVO 4G and Droid X displays. The Infuse 4G will run Android 2.2 with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz user interface overlay and will have a 1.2 GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera with HD recording, and front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera.

AT&T is still not announcing pricing nor availability at this time.

Unfortunately, however, this phone isn’t an LTE smartphone. For now, AT&T will join its rival T-Mobile USA in pushing HSPA+ with its fast download speeds as a 4G standard until it deploys its own LTE network to compete with Verizon; Sprint is using WiMax for 4G capabilities.

Another recently leaked AT&T 4G smartphone is the HTC Inspire 4G.

I recently ordered an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S and it’s the same story. For whatever reason, Samsung, is failing in providing an update to the Eclair (2.1) OS, and it ruins the phone. There’s too much lag time, FCs, and freezes. My advice. If you want Samsung wait for no less than Froyo 2.2, and preferably 2.3 (3.0?). I agree with the writer who says AT&T needs to bag the new phones and provide meaningful and efficient service, i.e., dropped calls, slow networks, etc.
p.s. I returned the phone opting instead to stick with my Nexus 1 that works great with 2.2+. I’ll wait now till the Android market settles down a bit. Too uneven. One point for the iPhone.

its cuz at&ts network is crappy that Samsung phones suck. i agree that Samsung should put 2.2 on the galaxy phones before making all new ones, but i heard on a forum that Samsung cannot put it on because of software issues, even though India and Europe have it. Although, it looks like it might skip 2.2 altogether and just go to 2.3 because of the open ended software possibilities google has given it and the nexus S, the newest android phone, is made by Samsung itself

Samsung commercials on CBSNEWS.com / Dateline
OMGosh – the online commericals for this phone with AT&T are SO obnoxious! The screaming lady and the pounding the spider on the phone screen – each time I hear/see it – I cringe!! YUK. I do not know about the phone but the commerical is TERRIBLE!
