AT&T LG Optimus G Jelly Bean Update Starts Rolling Out

Published

It appears that without much of a warning, or even an official announcement from AT&T, the AT&T LG Optimus G Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update has started to roll out to some owners today.

Last month, Sprint upgraded its version of the LG Optimus G with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, bringing the device up from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, an aging version of Android. Now, it appears that it’s AT&T’s turn as users on the XDA-Developers forum are claiming that the AT&T Optimus G Jelly Bean update has started to roll out today.

The AT&T LG Optimus G Jelly Bean roll out has seemingly begun.

The confirmations come on a thread wherein a source with supposed inside information said that the update would start rolling out tomorrow, April 4th. However, it appears that some owners are getting it today. It doesn’t appear to be a widespread roll out though it does appear to be hitting a handful of Optimus G owners that use AT&T’s 4G LTE network.

From the looks of things, the update is about 340MB in size, which means that AT&T LG Optimus G owners are going to have to be patient when it comes to downloading and installing the update. AT&T hasn’t announced anything yet so it’s no use continually checking within the device settings to see if an update has arrived.

At the very least, some owners are being taken from Android 4.0 to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which is, of course, an older version of Google’s Jelly Bean software. However, that doesn’t mean the update is not important to AT&T LG Optimus G owners.

In addition to likely fixes and enhancements straight from AT&T, the update will bring Google Now, an improved stock camera app, a smoother and faster user interface, a better stock keyboard and overhauled Calendar and Browser applications and more. It’s a big upgrade from Android 4.0 and one that AT&T Optimus G owners will likely want to install.

The full on roll out likely hasn’t begun just yet but look for AT&T to confirm this roll out sometime in the near future.
