AT&T Will Allow iPhone Tethering ‘Soon’
Although nothing is mentioned in terms of price and the timing is mentioned as merely ““soonâ€Â, AT&T will officially sanction tethering for the iPhone, according to AT& Mobility CEO Ralph De La Vega in an interview TechCrunch’s Mike Arrington. Those who jail break their iPhones can already do this, and word is AT&T has been skeptical about allowing this on their more fragile than we had been led to believe 3G network.
Interesting as this comes on the heels of news that AT&T has finally opened up the promised free WiFi for iPhone users at Starbucks and more recent news that it will be acquiring WayPort to increase the amount of WiFi hotspots it can offer.

Just $19.99 extra a month to access the same internet connection on another device!(don’t know just threw out a number)
I’m tired of uber expensive internet, texting, and basic cellphone service. I wish google would of gotten the 700mhz freq. but that will be locked away by telcos. But good news it that white space got approval.

All that’s standing between me and an iPhone 3G is tethering. Of course, I am a little concerned about battery life; I have read that some people are experiencing improvements in that area since 2.1 was released.

What I’d like is for the telcos to start looking at mobile internet with a Steam-like market concept. In other words, you pay for 3G internet (like paying for a game) but you can access it with whatever device you like that supports 3G (like the game). Currently paying $70/mo for a normal iPhone, that would go up to $80/mo for an iPhone 3G. But as far as I’m concerned I should be able to take that SIM card from an iPhone 3G, slot it into my X200T, and surf away. Paying $60 a month EXTRA, no consideration for the fact that I would already be paying for 3G on another device from the same network, is DISGUSTING not to mention the 5 GB cap. I just can’t afford that. If it was $30 or less I would spring for it anyways but not $60 – that’s highway robbery.
