Backupify Goes Free (for a limited time) to Back Up Your Cloud

backupifylogoIf you’re a cloud person, you might want to check this out. The cloud backup service, Backupify has announced that it will offer free accounts with unlimited storage until January 31, 2010. When the company launched last summer their was a tiered payment system, but the president, Robert May, says that it is less expensive to go this way than it is to acquire new customers.

Backupify will eventually announce a new payment plan, but if you sign up before the deadline Backupify is promising free backup online forever.

At the moment these are the cloud services that Backupify can pull data from:

  • Flickr
  • Photobucket
  • Google Docs
  • Zoho
  • Basecamp
  • WordPress
  • Blogger

    I wonder how well their security/privacy is implemented. I assume to connect to other services they’d need your plain text password for all those services? Futher more, I wonder how their own security is setup – a centralized online backup system connected to what they’ve noted above could mean a lot of data all in one place. This might sound silly – but I know some people who have passwords in emails, etc… not great practice, but easy for some…
