Best Buy Kicks Off Free iPhone 5 Deal

Published

on

Best Buy is offering a free iPhone 5 to users looking to upgrade from the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S by bringing back the free iPhone 5 trade-in deal from earlier this month.

Best Buy already cuts the price of the iPhone 5 to $150 after a $50 instant discount, and with the new iPhone 5 deal, users are guaranteed at least $150 in trade in value — and will get more if Best Buy determines their iPhone is worth more than $150.

There are a few catches, but overall this is the cheapest way to upgrade to the iPhone 5, and many iPhone 4S owners can upgrade now thanks to early upgrade policies in place, at least on Verizon.

This deal is good for any iPhone Best Buy sells, including AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.

The biggest catch is that the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S needs to be working to trade in for a free iPhone 5 at Best Buy. But, if your iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S is working this is a pretty good deal. Check the offer for your iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S before you go to the store with the trade-in checker.

The free iPhone 5 deal offers the best value for iPhone 4 owners looking to upgrade to the iPhone 5. The Verizon iPhone 4 is worth $70 to $75 as a trade-in on Gazelle.com, but Best Buy will give users double that. The AT&T iPhone 4 16GB is worth more on Gazelle, clocking in at $140 to $145 because of a higher demand for use as an unlocked model, but Best Buy still offers the fastest access to the iPhone 5.

Gazelle offers a better trade in value for the iPhone 4S.

iPhone 4S owners should be sure to check out Gazelle, where they can likely get more money for their used iPhone. The 16GB Verizon iPhone 4S should pull in $170 to $180 on Gazelle, enough to cover tax or Activation fees at Best Buy. The 16GB AT&T iPhone 4S commands $205 to $215 at Gazelle. Both of these phones could net $150 to $157 at Best Buy.

For users with a higher storage capacity iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S, the prices will be higher, so it’s a good idea to check the online trade in value before heading in to Best Buy. Gazelle will let users lock in a price today, walk in and upgrade at Best Buy for $150, send in their old phone and get cash quickly. It’s an extra step, but worth it for anyone with an iPhone 4S. The video below explains the trade in process.

The free iPhone 5 deal at Best Buy is only available in stores, so you will need to get in a car and go for a drive. This is part of Best Buy’s plan to get shoppers in store to spend money on accessories for the new iPhone, which needs new iPhone 5 cases and new chargers.

The $50 off part of the deal runs through June 29th, but there is no word on when the trade-in part of this iPhone 5 deal officially ends.

There are many reasons you should wait for the iPhone 5S release this fall, but there are just as many reasons you shouldn’t wait for the iPhone 5S, and a good deal like this is quite tempting.

This article states that you will get AT LEAST $150, yet there are some other articles that read “UP TO” $150. Can we get some clarification on this?
