Best Tech Christmas Present You’ve Given

Published

on

Christmas time is all about giving to those you love and care about. I’ve had some hits and misses over the years, but the best tech Christmas present I ever bought someone was an iPod for my mother-in-law. She’d been talking about getting one for a long time, and then to see her face as she opened it up was priceless. The best of Christmas for me is seeing my family open up their stuff up, see them jump and down with excitement, and then watch them use their present all year long. That is when you know that you had a hit.

What about you?

A Humax digital terrestrial DVR for parents – they always hated setting the VCR, but love how easy it is on the Humax.

A Sandisk Sansa e250 MP3 player for my older sister. Selected because it's pretty robust, easy for her to read, drag-and-drop with Windows Explorer, and supports PlaysForSure for library audiobooks. It was her first MP3 player, and she loves it. Asked if she might like something smaller for running (like the Sansa Clip), she said "No, I'd probably lose it. This one is perfect." I get thanked almost every time I talk to her.

Laser Eye Surgery for my mother. Hacking the body with lasers is a pretty solid tech gift. It changed her life.

Should be this years ones as i've bought them but not yet given. This year it's a Macbook for my Mother in law and for my Father in law a Harmony 1000i remote to replace the 5 remotes he has and that even I can't figure out (i'm forced to watch live SD TV at his place as I can't work out how to control his PVR, set top box etc! and I'm pretty tech savvy so my Mother in law has buckleys when he's away.
