BlackBerry 9780 Reviewed, Deemed Evolutionary Upgrade

Enterprise BlackBerry users who are eyeing the BlackBerry 9780 should take a look at Tracy and Matt detailed review of the device, which will be headed State-side later this month. The Bold 9780 is an evolution of the original BlackBerry 9700 and has the design of its predecessor while adding more memory and a freshened BlackBerry 6 operating system, which initially debuted on AT&T’s touchscreen-capable BlackBerry Torch 9800. Unlike the Torch, however, the Bold 9780 does not have a touchscreen.

According to the folks at Tracy’s and Matt’s, the device is a solid one, and BlackBerry devotees can find a lot to like. Here’s what they concluded about the Bold 9780:

Overall the BlackBerry Bold 9780 is a fantastic smartphone. If email, instant messaging, and social networking are your top priority then the 9780 will serve you well. As far as I am concerned there is no better device to do these things. The keyboard on the 9780 is just superb and in my opinion the best I have used to date. As I said earlier in the review there are only a few differences between the 9700 and the 9780. Should you upgrade? That is a hard one. Although BlackBerry 6 is not officially released yet for the 9700 it will be soon which means that the camera and memory will be the only differences in the two devices. I would say that if you are BlackBerry fan and use a lot of applications on your device then the 9780 is the natural progression forward. Go get one and enjoy.

When the Blackberry 9780 does launch on T-Mobile USA later this month, it will have to compete with the Motorola Droid Pro on Verizon Wireless, which runs on Android OS, and the Dell Venue Pro on T-Mobile, which runs on Windows Phone 7. Both the Droid Pro and the BlackBerry 9780 have a front-facing QWERTY keyboard that’s readily accessible while the Venue Pro will feature a portrait-sliding screen to reveal a QWERTY keyboard underneath that’s more akin in design to the BlackBerry Torch 9800.
