BlackBerry tablet rumors get louder and clearer

Published

on

The Wall Street Journal has assembled every rumor about the impending BlackBerry tablet, possibly called the BlackPad, put them in one place, and tied them together with an announcement date of next week.
The big event is said to be at a developer’s conference next week, presumably the BlackBerry Developer Conference in San Francisco September 27-30. Makes sense. As does their recent purchase of QNX Realtime Operating System. At the time, the purchase was said to help with in-auto integration, but QNX could provide the OS for the BlackPad.

Hard to put this story as just a rumor since the pieces fit together so well, but as RIM has declined to comment, we’ll just have to hold our breaths until next week. Mark your calendars.

One of my vendors was trying to give me a deal where I could get (no strings attached) a free Blackberry Enterprise Server with unlimited users for use with my Exchange environment… no doubt as a big theoretical Blackberry marketing blitz. I told him I had zero Blackberry users in my business and I preferred to keep it that way. It’s nice to see them making an effort, but I really see Blackberry going the way of Palm sooner rather than later.

I believe that this device will be called the Playbook. 7″ screen, Flash 10.x, HDMI 1080p, Front/Rear camera… :-)
