CableJive dockXtender Review: Dock the iPhone or iPad While in a Case

Published

on

The new CableJive dockXtender extends iPhone and iPad 30-pin charging and docking cables and providing an extra level of convenience so users can dock an iPhone or iPad while keeping it in the case. It works great with any iPad, iPod or iPhone 30-pin dock accessory!

Users who love bulky cases like the Otterbox case can’t fit the iPhone or iPad in traditional iPhone or iPad docking systems. With the dockXtender, it’s easy to use a nice docking system and keep the iPhone or iPad in the case.

Plug the female end of the cable into the dock and it extends the dock from two to six feet, depending on the cable. No more removing the device from the case at night. Just use the dockXtender and it’s easy to connect the iPhone to speaker systems. It also makes those annoyingly short cables longer with either two or six feet extension cables available.

The dockXtender is also great for reaching from a poorly placed cigarette lighter in the car up to the dash when using the iPhone for GPS.

The cable works as designed. I used all the features of my iHome speaker system that work with my iPad or iPhone as if the phone sat in the dock itself. It functions with complete pass through convenience.

CableJive also paid attention to some details most cables don’t. They shielded the audio and video connectors from the power connectors to make sure there’s no interference. Here’s how they explain it:

Each wire in the dockXtender is tailored specifically for the function it performs. A revolutionary 2-tier shielding system puts all video and audio signals inside a separate shielding to reduce interference from the other signals traveling through the wire.

The dockXtender uses sturdy materials and connects solidly to the iPhone and the dock, just as I’d expect from CableJive. The dock connector fits into a typical dock cutout on a case just like the cable that ships with the iPhone or iPad. Some third-party dock connectors I’ve tested don’t fit because they’re too thick with a non-standard sized dock.

I’m using the CableJive dockXtender to dock my iPad to my iHome charging dock on my nightstand. The dock includes two iPhone/iPod docks, which worked great when my wife and I each used iPhones. Now that I’m using a Samsung Galaxy Note, I plug my wife’s phone into one dock and use the dockXtender in the other to charge my iPad. The dock’s side USB charging port charges my Samsung Galaxy. This $30 let me continue to use my docking system.

The $29.95 for the shorter cable and $31.95 for the longer six-foot cable seems a little steep compared to other cables. CableJive cables use quality material and this little accessory can is an easy way to save money for users that want to use an iPad with an iPhone speaker dock system.

The dockXtender also delivers on the promise of using the iPhone with a case on and offering the convenience of a longer iPhone cable.

I can recommend the CableJive dockXtender without hesitation. Not everyone IS excited about little things like this, but after a wek of use the convenience and versatility of the CableJive dockXtender is hard to ignore.

Buy the dockXtender at CableJive for $25.95 (2-foot) or $31.95 (6-foot).
