The latest Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 update includes a collection of fixes, but there are also important changes to the Black Ops 3 weapons in this update.

As we learned from the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 updates over the last week, Treyarch isn’t spelling out every change that comes in what the team is calling Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 hotfixes — but we did learn about five weapons that are no longer as powerful, and six weapons that are upgraded.

These changes take place in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 multiplayer modes and will impact the classes and loadouts you choose to use when you head into a match.

The new  Call of Duty: Black Ops 33.18.20.* update includes fixes to Medals and Challenges, fixes an out-of-bounds exploit and Arena Capture the Flag changes. In addition to these fixes, there are Black Ops 3 Weapons tuning changes.

In a post on Reddit David Vonderhaar, Studio Design Director of Treyarch outlines the upgrades and downgrades.

Nerfed Black Ops 3 Weapons

When a Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 weapon is OP, or is too powerful the team can Nerf it. This changes some weapon property to tone down the damage a skilled player can inflict with it.

The five Black Ops 3 weapons below are nerfed in this update. When you login to play next you will find that they are not as powerful.

  • Gorgon
  • XR-2
  • Pharo
  • VMP
  • Haymaker

Of course, as the video below shows, some players can destroy the enemy no matter what the weapon is.

Vonderhaar explains, “Most of these edits were very small and range from clip sizes, to damage range, to ADS time in/out adjustments, modifications to Quickdraw Bonus(es) for LMGs, recoil reductions.”

Buffed Black Ops 3 Weapons

While some of the guns are no longer as powerful, there are six weapons that will now delivery more damage or more power to the player wielding them.

These Buffed weapons can now do more damage thanks to changes similar to those described above.

  • Razorback
  • HVK-30
  • Dingo
  • KRM-262
  • Argus
  • Locus

Treyarch did not outline the specific changes for each weapon, but that is something we will likely see outlined on YouTube in the near future.

Why is Treyarch updating the Black Ops 3 weapons already? The team wants to deliver a better experience for gamers. Vonderhaar explains, “The general philosophy is to tune in small increments either up or down, until we have a really healthy set of data and player opinion to work from.”

When you login to play Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 you will see a prompt to update to the latest version. You may see a slightly different version, which could be due to testing various fixes and tuning options.

Another Call of Duty where the guns are very inconsistent.

this was LONG overdue.. people are consistently one shot killing enemies with a suppressed sniper weapon from the back corner of the map with a toe shot.. its REALLY stupid… especially when you know they are there and land 4 hits with an AK but that single toe shot will do you in every time! (..I’m like.. UHHHHHH this is a cybernetic enhanced player character I am controlling that instantly dies when it gets a hang-nail!?)

@JK The sniper weapon you’re talking about wasn’t nerfed.

I’m looking for that ICR-1 buff because with the current game meta of “Fire-rate > damage > everything” is really grinding me with all the campers and run and gun noobs..

I noticed something intresting about the guns in black ops 3. You find a gun that you like a lot. You play with it and kick ass but then suddenly it just sucks. I think black ops 3 is trying to keep people from getting to good so they make the gun that you love suck. But only for you
