CDMA/LTE iPhone 4 for Verizon Reportedly Ready for Post-Christmas Launch

An iPhone variant for Verizon Wireless’s U.S. CDMA network will reportedly also come with 4G LTE support as well. An unknown source claims that the carrier had held management training sessions for iPhone sales last week with LTE-compatible versions of the Apple smartphone. The iPhone for Verizon is said to have been completed for some time now and that Verizon is already receiving shipment to some of the carrier’s warehouses. Third-party retailers will not be getting shipment in advance of an announcement, however, to prevent leaks.

The source of the iPhone 4G LTE rumor for Verizon Wireless is also saying that Apple CEO Steve Jobs is upset about the slow and limited deployment of 4G LTE networks by both AT&T and Verizon. Verizon Wireless has already deployed 4G LTE to 38 metropolitan areas, but a widely deployed LTE network won’t happen in time by summer, which is the time when previous refreshes of the iPhone have historically launched. It is said that Apple had wished to make the iPhone 5 an LTE-only device, but without a network to support that, Apple may have to use a multi-mode chip to provide back support with CDMA/HSPA networks in addition to an LTE network for Verizon Wireless and AT&T.

It’s unclear how reliable the rumors are as these conjectures came from unknown sources.
