Claimed iPhone 5 Caught On Video with New Design
As the iPhone 5 release date nears, the number of leaked iPhone 5 parts are reaching critical mass.
After sharing photos of an assembled iPhone 5, built with leaked parts claimed to be from Apple factories and more comments on a September iPhone 5 release date, we have video of a claimed back and front, showing off what the iPhone 5 looks like — if these parts are real.
Japanese Apple blog Macotakara posts a new video of what may be the iPhone 5 back and front as well as a collection of possible internal parts, including a flexible power cable, which could find their way inside the next generation iPhone.

The iPhone 5 housings video shows what might be the back of the iPhone 5, which is two-tone with what we assume is a metal middle section and a look at the inside of the back plate. The video also shows the front of what may be the new iPhone, with a larger glass section for the display and slimmer top and bottom bezels which help keep the size of the new iPhone from growing too much.
The video also gives a look at the sides of the assembled iPhone 5 parts showing;
- A SIM card slot on the right.
- Larger opening for the iPhone camera.
- Smaller dock connector on the bottom with a headphone jack to the left.
- The familiar volume and mute switch on the left.
- The top of the iPhone 5 sports a power button and a nothing else.
These parts could very well be fakes leaked by Apple or someone looking to play on the pent up demand for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5 news. Mactakara titles the video iPhone 5 Housings? which leads us to believe even they aren’t sure if these leaks are legit.
As we inch closer to the iPhone 5 release date, we continue to see similar next generation iPhone designs leak to multiple sites, likely from multiple sources. This lends credibility to the leaks, which match with our own iPhone 5 engineering sample photos.

Apple has not commented on the iPhone 5, or what the next iPhone is called. In a recent call with investors Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer told analysts and investors, “We’re reading the same rumors and speculation that you are about a new iPhone and we think this has caused some pause in customers purchasing.” That’s the only comment on a new iPhone from Apple.
iPhone 5 Release Date & Rumors
The iPhone 5 release date is expected this fall. Apple’s release schedule points to an October iPhone 5 release date, and Verizon CFO Fran Shammo dropped a hint that the new iPhone would arrive in Verizon’s Q4.
The latest leaks and rumors point to a September 12th iPhone 5 announcement and a release date on September 21st.

iPhone 5 rumors point to a new design for the iPhone and a number of upgrades to the internals and specs. The new iPhone may have the following features when it is released later this year.
- Taller 4-inch display
- Smaller 19-pin dock connector
- New thinner design
- 4G LTE connectivity for 10X faster downloads
- NFC with integration to Passbook
- Quad-core processor
The rumors also point to the launch of the iPad Mini, refreshed iPad and a new iPod Nano which makes for a very crowded iPhone 5 release date event, but does a good job of delivering a new Apple product at every price point.

I’m a tad skeptical on this leak, mainly because the back doesn’t seem to display the small print information (Designed by Apple in Calinfornia, Assembled in China, etc.) below the “iPhone” text.

I just came from a Samsung sg2 to a iPhone 4s & am extremely let down. No flash player, very slow , so slow I can’t stream music without multiple interruptions. Now I hear a new one will be out in September. I now know I should have done my home work as I’ll be stuck with this out dated beast for some time. When my contract is up, I will go back to Samsung or HTC which should be light years ahead by then. Thank you Apple.

From a design standpoint, I’d hardly call it a new design. It’s the same design, slightly longer with a different back and a few bumps in specs. Typical for Apple’s new releases. They include small little updates, but sell/market them as huge upgrades that just catch up to what’s been out for a while. I was hoping for more (if this is what it will be). Some of the earlier speculation designs were far nicer. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Would you just the redesign from the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 4 was a small update? Or that the Macbook Air was a small update to the Macbook line? Or perhaps the transition between the fifth and sixth iPod Nano?
I’d say Apple does a better job than nearly any other company when it comes to innovating designs, and they have the portfolio to back up that claim.
