Clash of Clans May Update: Reviving the Game With Big Changes

The last major Clash of Clans update arrived in March, and along with it was the first new Dark Elixir troop in a while, bug fixes, and methods to remove cheaters. Today though, Supercell announced what could truly be the biggest update in the history of Clash of Clans. Faster brewing spells, quicker training times for troops and more. As much as 3x faster in most cases, and it could revive the game completely.

Bigger than the December update last year that delivered Town Hall 11 to the game, and bigger than anything else. Over the course of the past 4-5 months Clash of Clans has suffered from millions of complaints, players quitting, Clans going silent and more. However, that will all change starting sometime tomorrow.

On May 2nd Supercell announced a “game balancing update” is coming soon that everyone needs to know about. This could be what the company needs to revive the slowing game, get it back to the top of the charts along with Clash Royale, and boost its millions and millions of players into enjoying the game again. Over the course of the past four years Clash of Clans has changed a lot. Things have progressed, bigger and better troops arrived, strong bases with huge walls that can’t be penetrated and more. As a result of all the recent updates small armies no longer suffice. Players need to spend 200-300k on big armies to take down enemies in multiplayer battles.

These huge troops take well over an hour to create, and often nearly 2 hours just for one attack that lasts three minutes. The result is millions of players that simply don’t play anymore, and have uninstalled the game. My own clan has lost 6 players since the December update. Hopefully this update changes that.

What’s New?

Supecell understands that players aren’t enjoying the game as much as they did before. In an effort to fix a lot of problems they’ve started banning cheaters for two weeks, or permanently, added daily star bonus goals and more. But that wasn’t enough. However, what’s coming tomorrow could be the biggest change in Clash history.

Once the Clash of Clans May update arrives all Spell brewing times will be twice as fast, and training big troops like Golems, Pekka, Bombers and more will be 2-3x faster. Not to mention Hero King, Queen and Grand Warden regeneration times will be greatly reduced. Here’s the full details from Supercell moderator Anoushka.

  • 2x Faster brewing for all Spells
  • 2x Faster training for Dragon, Witch and Wall Breaker
  • 3x Faster training for Golem, Lava Hound and P.E.K.K.A
  • Hugely reduced Hero regeneration times
  • Faster training also for Balloon, Wizard, Healer, Valkyrie and Bowler
  • Maximum timeout searching for opponents raised from 5 to 30 minutes

• Gameplay balance: Bowler starts attacking much faster when reaching a target
“The Bowler landed a bit softer than he would have liked. While we continue to watch how strategies evolve with this new troop, a faster first-attack speed (similar to the recent Valkyrie buff) will make sure Bowlers don’t lag behind the rest of the army.”

Update Release Date

Obviously the next question on the millions of players mind is when will this huge game-changing update arrive. We have an answer for that too. The forum post simply mentioned it was coming soon, but after some digging it could arrive as soon as tomorrow, May 4th.

Other Details

For those who aren’t doing the math here, this means that time spent building troops for attacks will be greatly reduced in an effort to allow players to enjoy the game how they’d like, and attack as much as we’d like. The game has started to slow after the last 2-3 updates, but this could revive it to the glory it once held as the best mobile game on the market. Here’s a breakdown of how long things will take after the update.

Brew Times:

  • Golems, Pekkas, Hounds, Dragon: 15 minutes
  • Witch: 10 minutes
  • Wall Breaker: 1 minute
  • Spells: 10 minutes
  • Dark Spells: 5 minutes

Supercell went on to mention a few other things will be changed during the update this week as well. Such as an extended time-out period for searches in higher level league play, longer waits for the retry button for those with high trophy counts and more.

There are a few unconfirmed reports floating around that this update will also add a Gem mine, and let players use Hero troops during war. Those are both false, and likely won’t be happening any time soon.
