ClearCaptions Adds Captions to Calls on iPhone, Android and Computer

Ever have trouble hearing someone on the other end of a phone call? If so, you aren’t alone. For some of us it can be an annoyance, but for others, with hearing problems, it can make using a cell phone a difficult task. Thankfully, there is a new service called ClearCaptions, that will add captions to your phone calls so you can read what the caller is saying to you. Best of all, it works on your mobile devices like the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Android smartphones so you can see your captions on the go.

The ClearCaptions service is currently free and in Beta while it is being developed further, but it looks like a nice solution for hearing impaired users who are tired of asking, “What’s you say?” all the time. The service is essentially closed captions for your phone. Right now, the service only works on outgoing calls, and if you want to use it on your mobile device while on a call you will need to be able to use data and voice connections at the same time. If you can’t do that, you will need to use your device for captions and another phone for the calls. Even with these restrictions it ClearCaptions is a cool service that many users will find helpful.

ClearCaptions is free to use, and your callers won’t know you are using it. The service works on your mobile devices as well as Mac and Windows computers, which means if you are reading this post, you can probably use the service.
