Confirmed: WP7S will lack copy & paste at launch

I suppose I could put a positive spin on that headline as others have done, but frankly, I already figured that cut/copy/paste was coming to Windows Phone 7 Series after lacking it initially, so all I see now is confirmation of that in a report from Long Zheng at istartedsomething.

…the development team actually knows exactly how they will be implementing copy & paste in WP7S but did not believe it could be implemented without affecting the release schedule they’ve committed too and therefore will be including it in an update down the road.

In other words, copy & paste is not so simple to implement on this whole new OS that it can be easily thrown in there before release. One might infer it is a “challenge to implement” and, while they have it mostly figured out, they might “need to see the OS in the field before finalizing a good c/c/p implementation.” Yes, it still can be (and has been) argued that it should have c/c/p at launch, but I tend to believe if it was that easy, it’d already be done.

Copy/paste is a handy feature I use on my Windows phone.

I guess one should wait for the better version to come out later?

Probably no need… they’re going to actually USE the Windows Update feature in it, from my understanding. That or at least Microsoft will be issuing the updates rather than OEMs and carriers (which is as it should be).

That would be great. I agree that Microsoft need to control update releases. Looking forward to the ccp update for Win 7 Phone!
