Dell Streak Available to Order This Week, $299 or $549

The mini table we first saw back at CES 2010 will finally be available to order starting tomorrow if you signed up for Dell’s pre-sale event or Friday if you didn’t. The Dell Streak is priced at $299.99 if you’re a new AT&T customer or eligible for an upgrade. For $549.99 you can buy one without a new contract, but the device is SIM locked to AT&T.

I got a chance to play with the Dell Streak a few weeks ago and it is a pretty slick device. The thing I like most about this devies is its large display, which is far superior to the iPhone 4 for browsing.  Dell’s marketing this as a tablet, but it’s essentially a big phone. It’ll be very interesting to see if people are willing to trade in their more traditional phones and smartphones for the Streak. If applications, browsing and other non-phone features are a priority, the Streak looks to be a very solid mobile device.

I believe that the distinction between a “phone” and a “tablet” in this context is unsophisticated.

The two devices that you’re comparing are both small touchscreen slates that make phone calls. If you’re going to call one a “tablet” (neither are) then you might as well call the other one a tablet too. Almost ALL “phones” and “tablets” are currently running the same software on the same hardware. It’s silly to call one a “phone” and the other a “tablet” when in reality the former isn’t a tablet at all and the former is much more than just a phone. These are MIDs.

I am sorry but if on an official demo video you have to type several times for your command to be taken, on a touch only device, in my opinion it sucks, probable the touch screen is not very good.

observe how in the video above the keyboard has ben shown but no key was ever touched, on a demo video I would not say this is by chance…

Locked to AT&T? That makes this an utterly useless device.
