Don’t Expect an iPhone 6 In Place of the iPhone 5S

Published

on

The iPhone 6 is more popular in the minds of consumers than the iPhone 5S, creating a whirlwind of reports about how Apple could jump straight to an iPhone 6, leaving the iPhone 5S name to collect dust like the iPhone HD and other rumored iPhone models.

While there was some expectation of the iPhone 5 in 2011 when Apple announced the iPhone 4S, it was not as great as we are seeing this year, as many publications claim Apple could deliver the iPhone 6 in 2013. We’ve even seen the rumored budget iPhone pegged with the iPhone 6 name and talk of the iPhone 6 arriving in place of the iPhone 5S.

Yes, we’ve called for Apple to jump straight to the iPhone 6 release, but that’s a call for features and form, not just for a iPhone 5 shell that sits in a window labeled iPhone 6.

Don't expect an iPhone 6 with a larger screen, like the current android competition, and a new design in 2013. And definitely don't expect a cheap iPhone with the iPhone 6 name.

The iPhone 6, a completely new look for the iPhone that is tied into the features and future of Apple shown in iOS 7 is not something we will see in 2013. Leaks, analysts and logic all point to an iPhone 5S this year and a new iPhone 6 in 2014,

Here are the reasons iPhone shoppers should keep their expectations in check and look for an iPhone 5S this year rather than an iPhone 6, no matter how many news stories claim Apple is planning to push the iPhone 5S aside.

Leaks, Leaks and More Leaks

There are already a large number of iPhone 5S leaks that show an iPhone with a nearly identical design to the iPhone 5. In June we saw leaks of an iPhone that is possibly an iPhone 5S with a complete back, logic board and battery. While this device looks like the iPhone 5, it is clearly not the same iPhone that i son store shelves right now.

The various leaked iPhone parts highlight a similar design to the iPhone 5, a case maker iPhone 5S blueprint shows an iPhone that looks like the current model, but with a new dual LED flash.

In short, all the substantial and credible leaks point to an iPhone 5S with a similar design to the iPhone 5 coming late this year.

The iPhone 5S Problem is Great

The iPhone 5S isn't a problem for Apple. By offering a minor release every two years, consumers get more enjoyment from their purchases, even if it is partially psychological.

The iPhone 5S isn’t a problem for Apple. By offering a minor release every two years, consumers get more enjoyment from their purchases, even if it is partly psychological.

There is a lot of talk about how releasing a big iPhone update on a single number and a small one on an “S” release is a problem for Apple, but it’s actually a great problem. While many consumers are left wishing they had a new Android phone months after buying the latest and greatest, Apple’s limited choice and limited release cycle helps keep customers happier longer.

This year is a great example, and Apple is already putting the marketing machine into gear. Apple counts on amazing software to fill the gap created by a new design, and at WWDC 2013 Apple called iOS 7, “The biggest change to iOS since the iPhone.” and Craig Federighi, Apple SVP of Software engineering describes the experience of upgrading to iOS 7 by saying it is, “Like getting a new phone.”

iPhone 6 is New, Not Incremental

This goes hand-in-hand with the last reason, but it’s worth calling out. The prime iPhone releases, those with just a digit, usher in a new experience and design. We’ve seen Apple deliver a higher resolution display that arguably kicked off the race for a high pixel count on mobile displays, increase screen size, add LTE and change designs on the major iPhone releases.

We expect Apple will announce an iPhone 6 with a completely new look and new features that are still making their way into other devices. In addition to a new design we could see a larger higher-resolution display, VoLTE technology that delivers better sounding calls and should let Verizon users talk and surf the web at the same time. If there is no fingerprint reader in the iPhone 5S, we could see it arrive on the iPhone 6.

Could Apple release the iPhone 6 in 2013? Of course, but if Apple does skip the iPhone 5S, don’t expect the iPhone 6 name to grace a cheap iPhone or an iPhone that looks just like the iPhone 5.

According to reports an iPhone 6 prototype includes a larger higher-resolution display and no home button, which is the source of inspiration behind many iPhone 6 concepts. Couple this with multiple analyst reports of an iPhone 6 in 2014 and the likelihood of an iPhone 6 release in 2013 is almost non-existent.

Sorry, but Apple just doesn’t seem to get the fact that people desire larger screens. We are tired of Apple’s half-baked “S” series phones. Apple, you took forever to bring an LTE phone to the table, over a year after Android, now you just don’t get the larger screen. We’re not talking about the gigantic screens over 5″, but at least 4.5 – 4.7″ would be nice. But you won’t listen, you never do, you think, “We’re Apple, people will buy whatever we give them”. Well, not all of us. A few will settle for your half-baked version, but not the smart ones. Android has plenty more to offer; it’s a new game these days. If, and when you finally catch up, we may give you consideration, but you have a long way to go. And what the hell is it with that new Fisher Price color scheme you have going on the iOS7… Are you making phones for adults or kids!

The 125M iPhones sold last year strongly suggest that you’re incredibly wrong. I’ve tried an Android each of the past three years, and always return to iOS. Why? Because I want an incredibly smooth experience. I didn’t get that with any flagship Android model despite promises. The gripes I have (which are all addressed in iOS7) are easily fixed with a jailbreak. No different than the mod work Android fanboys crow about they can perform on their phones. Finally, given the demo of buyers for cheap Android phones and the horrific Beats co-branding, and bloatware, it’s very obvious who is making their phones for kids. It’s not Apple.

So, what you are saying Mikie is Android is too difficult for you to use after being an iPhone fanboy for so many years. We understand, most girls prefer iPhones. I doubt you have spent much time with iOS7 yet, since the final version hasn’t been released. Even jailbreaking your iPhone wont get you the quality of an Android such as the Samsung Galaxy series or HTC One. As for Beats, that is only found on HTC phones and anyone purchasing Beats headsets knows they aren’t owned by children, unlike the iPhone which most 5 year olds can use. Go to any airport and watch the kids, they are playing with iPods, iPads and iPhones. Best entertainment yuppie parents can buy. See you in line waiting breathlessly for your iPhone 5S. I’ll be the one laughing as you purchase a phone that is still sub par to the latest Androids. “Maybe next year we’ll get that” cries the iPhone fanboy….

First, what’s this “we” shit? You got a mouse in yer pocket?

Second, screen size isn’t the only choice to make when choosing a phone. Personally, I don’t give a ruby red rat’s ass just what phone anyone uses (damn, lots of rodents in this reply somehow), but lay off slagging the phone of (not) your choice. Plenty of 50+ people like me have iPhones and Androids. Smart people, too. Your fanboy-style of slagging Apple (or anything else) is an oxymoron (I love that word) to anything to say regarding “smart”.

the reason apple can get away with these tiny ‘upgrades’ every other year is simple…there are enough itards around willing to pay top dollar to them every 12 months for a technically poor phone. they’re a couple years behind in terms of hardware now and yet still the sheep flock to them.

    funny to watch though!

Meanwhile, a siginificant amount of people pony up cash for Android phones that are designed to never be supported for OS upgrades. As a result, there is fragmentation like nobody ever imagined. Android is a developer’s nightmare and a carrier’s best friend. Why? Because if you’d like to upgrade your OS (currently less than 3% of Android phones are on the current OS) you have to buy the new hardware. But if you have an iPhone, iOS upgrades will be yours for free, and for years.

if you want a bigger screen then why don’t you buy an android , a bigger screen would mean that developers would have to redefine all their apps once again, making it a hassle as they already need to reinvent them for ios 7. iPhone 5 is a perfect size for its company , the bigger phones get the more they look like tablets

I’m a itard whom has also dabbled with android, I don’t want a larger screen on my phone as I have a tablet at home! Android is fine but iOS is my fave. Why the aggressive stance – buy what you want and leave people to make their own minds up…….

I had the iPhone 4,4s and the 5. I was excited each time but then was board after a couple months. I have a droid dna now and I’ll never go back to apple. I can’t understand why people flock to a outdated phone when so many new android phones that are awesome. Big deal you can’t by a case for it in every store you walk in.

It is clear that Apple fans can’t see nor will admit to any possible deficiency in the great Steve Jobs legacy.

It doesn’t matter that their competitors brought 4g to their phones a full 14 months before Apple did, or NFC a full year ago and by all accounts isn’t even in the next Apple phone.

Apple is losing the screen size game, badly. I know Jobs was a purist, but people want bigger screens. So apple gives us the iphone 5 with a larger 4 inch screen, which their competitors had eclipsed 18 months prior. Same with camera quality.

Now we have the S4 with eye tracking that stops playing videos whn your eyes look away from the screen, IR functionality to be used as a remote to anything with a IR receiver., onboard temp and humidity sensors. I could go on, but apple fans have already zoned out.

Apple is conservatively a year behind their competition, which is why Android is eating their lunch.

I had the iphone 4, thought it was a great phone, but Apple has already lost the commanding lead they had in the smart phone arena, and seem to want to lose more by rolling out these BS incremental improvement phones while their competition is destroying them.

The problem with you droid snobs is you are haters. If someone wants to use an iPhone because it is the superior product what’s your problem? Get over it babies.

The problem is to many dumb android people pay less money for a phone that won’t last as long as apple and doesn’t get replaced like apple. They don’t have big money to spend so they have to whine. Yes apple is behind but they will catch up. I don’t know y somebody would wanna pay big money for junk like android n who wants to do 3 steps just to do one thing. And my iphone takes better pics than my s3. Samsung made a fridge held together by tape how do think their phones are made. An what about iMessage Samsung doesn’t have that not any other phone either so apple has something on them all. And with android tons of things running and junk u don’t need. And the security sucks on android so hope u android losers like every time u go on the Internet ppl r making big money off stealing your info n sometimes wiping the phone clean and with android nothing is specifically from them it’s all 3rd party an at your own risk. Boo android!
