Droid DNA Android 4.2 Update Pegged for September, Not Android 4.3

Published

While an HTC executive promised a Droid DNA Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update with Sense 5 for September, it appears that the Droid DNA may instead be getting Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Sense 5 when Verizon pushes out new software for its former flagship.

Several weeks ago, HTC President Jason Mackenzie took to Twitter and announced that the company was working to get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out to HTC One owners in the U.S. during the month of September. Mackenzie offered no date but he has said that the company is still on track for a release across SKUs sometime this month.

At the time, he also claimed that the Droid DNA, Verizon’s version of the HTC Butterfly, would also be getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and the new Sense 5 as well.

HTC Droid DNA announcement

The Droid DNA should see Android 4.2 and Sense 5 by the end of September.

Curiously, a leak on Verizon’s website suggested that the Droid DNA would be getting Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5 with its next update, something that went against what Mackenzie promised to Droid DNA owners. HTC remains mum on the situation but noted HTC insider LlabTooFeR suggests that the Droid DNA will be getting Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Sense 5 and not Android 4.3.

He claims that users will see Android 4.2 Jelly Bean first, despite HTC’s claims. He has been dead on with information in the past and given that Verizon’s website showed off Android 4.2 and not Android, a Droid DNA Android 4.3 Jelly Bean roll out in September is looking grim at this point.

It’s entirely possible that both LlabTooFeR and Verizon are wrong and we likely won’t know until Verizon pushes out the update, something that should happen in the near future given that it posted information on its website.

The same leakster has claimed that the Droid DNA will be getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and Sense 5.5 and it’s possible that those updates will roll out together.

The Droid DNA has been replaced by the HTC One but it still remains a very viable phone thanks to its high-end hardware. The device arrived back in November of last year and Android 4.2 and Sense 5 would mark its first major update as the device launched with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean right out of the box.

I’m getting really tired of waiting for an update. I’m sure this could have been done months ago.

KaylaCox if you have an update, go to settings, under system click on software update… It will check to see if you have one, if you do it will update….. I was told when I got my phone that they were doing updates based on serial number or SKU, and that all of them should eventually have jellybean 4.2…
