Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich Update Misses Deadline

Published

on

In addition to the HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update’s missed deadline, HTC also missed the deadline for the Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich update and thus far, the company is not offering any sort of time table for the update’s arrival.

Earlier this year, HTC said that it would roll out the Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich update before the end of August. However, we’re now several days into September and the update is not yet available in any form.

HTC has issued vague statements to some inquiring minds on Facebook saying that it indeed missed the release window and that it’s currently working with Verizon on the update.

HTC is telling Droid Incredible 2 owners to remain patient in regards to ICS.

So, it looks like, along with the HTC ThunderBolt update, the company is also still working on the Droid Incredible 2 update though it provides no specifics on its progress or slated release date.

That means like HTC ThunderBolt owners, Droid Incredible 2 owners now have an update release date that is in limbo.

What’s also interesting is that Canadian carrier Bell says that it won’t be rolling out ICS for its HTC Incredible S, a device that is similar to the Droid Incredible 2 on Verizon. We’re going to assume that at this point that that has nothing to do with the Droid Incredible 2’s update and that Verizon still plans to roll out the update to Droid Incredible 2 owners.

However, it does leave the door open for HTC and Verizon to ultimately decide not to update the Droid Incredible 2. Again, there are no concrete signs that this will happen but at this point, anything is possible.

Clearly, this is not what Droid Incredible 2 owners had in mind when they were promised Ice Cream Sandwich by the end of August but this what they’re going to have to live with until HTC or Verizon decides to offer some solid information in regards to the update.

We’ll keep you posted.

The delay is coming from Verizon. Leave HTC alone.

Well, considering Samsung and Motorola are able to update their devices on the verizon network much quicker, I would say you are wrong. My guess is a manpower issue, or issues with HTC software.

Incredible S (the same phone) was updated months ago and on time in Europe, yet Bell and Verizon are annoyed with something apparently…

If you take a look at the forum that released the leaked RUU for this phone, you can see that it updates the firmware, more specifically, the radio. I am guessing the operating system is completed (Ice Cream Sandwich), but Verizon needs to approve the firmware update for the OTA update to be released since the firmware actually updates the phones’ hardware. There might be some problems with the Verizon network and the firmware. Just a guess.

They should really just tell us if our phone will or will not be getting the update. I’m very tired of waiting and will definitely be buying the iphone 5 when it comes out.

Since Incredible S is a close cousin to Incredible 2, I imagine the update will happen. No need to alarm anyone by implying it might not. Truth is, Verizon is a tough cookie to deal with. This is also why toro (their Galaxy Nexus) gets updated way later than maguro (the GSM side). Hard for Google to deal with, hard for HTC to deal with, and I personally found their customer service lacking when I switched away from them years ago… Basically they are a big boy and like to throw their weight around. One day that philosophy might bite them though.
