Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich Update Status Still Unclear

Published

on

We are mid-way through July and HTC has yet to issue any sort of update on the status of the Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich update.

Back in May, HTC announced that it would make a decision about when it would update Verizon’s Droid Incredible 2 with Ice Cream Sandwich. The company said that it would roll out the update by the end of August. Since May though, the situation has gotten a bit complicated and Droid Incredible 2 owners are wanting answers.

When HTC announced that the Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich update release date would be coming by the end of August, it failed to provide any specifics.

The Droid Incredible 2’s ICS status is unclear.

Since then though, HTC has rolled out the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC Incredible S, which is essentially the European version of the Droid Incredible 2. That roll out infused hope into Droid Incredible 2 owners that believed that the update would arrive soon.

We believed that the roll out to the HTC Incredible S would mean that HTC would update Droid Incredible 2 owners at some point in the near future.

However, since that roll out took place earlier this month, HTC has remained silent about when it’s going to upgrade the Droid Incredible 2 to Ice Cream Sandwich leaving owners in the dark.

The company does have until the end of August to roll out the software, but now that the Incredible S update has rolled out successfully, one would think that Droid Incredible 2 owners who have waiting in limbo for a couple of months now deserve an answer.

Hopefully, the company delivers some answers soon.

How are you holding up Incredible 2 owners? Think you’ll see the update soon?

Update: The Droid Incredible will indeed be getting ICS, it’s only a matter of when. Article has been updated to reflect that.

This is the second post that I’ve read on this site that questions the update status. The Droid Incredible IS getting ics. It is no longer a question of IF but rather WHEN. The Incredible 2 will either be updated by the end of august or it’s date of update will be determined by the end of august. Seriously Adam learn your shit

Uh, tomy even the link you posted still says, “To be determined (by the end of August)”. That is not an IS it is an IF. tomy you need to learn how to read. I own a DINC2 and am waiting.

The link says it will be released by end of August.
If they do not release ics for the dinc2 then my next phone won’t be from HTC.

They wouldn’t put it on the update list if wasn’t going to get updated. It also would have appeared on the list of devices not getting ics. Besides that, the incredible s is the same exact device and it got ics. The rollout IS coming. I too own a Incredible 2 and have been patiently awaiting the update. It’s coming, articles like this are just out to cause hysteria and bother the owners by causing insecurity about the rollout. Just be patient. Just because no information has been released doesn’t mean it’s not coming. GottaBeMobile shouldn’t be writing articles based on the fact that there is no info out there since the update list in May.

THANK YOU TOMY! They put it on the list for a reason. If it doesn’t get updated, then excuse me for this, but if they are going to put it on the list, they should keep their word for it. Plus, it is TBD by the end of August, yet it is still on the update list, so it should get updated! (I myself is a Droid Incredible 2 owner and I am patiently awaiting the update. If it doesn’t come, then I will probably get the Galaxy Nexus, or the Blackberry Porsche Design P’9981.)

Besides the ICS deal who else is having issues with the female component of the phone not wanting to take a charge??? Otherwise, I love the phone, but it needs some serious reconstruction. Plus the software needs to be fixed with the keyboard. If ICS can fix the keyboard issues, let me at it!!!

On my pc at home, I still have the links, but this is a k.own issue with the phone. There was a soldering problem with some of the boards. You need to get the phone switched out. Probably a new battery too as the charging problem kills the battery. I did this all a few months ago.

I second the guy above. I am already ticked off that a beta has been available nearly a year with most features. If I knew HTC was this slow on updates I would have routed it. I’m already going to consider that when getting a new phone and if they don’t update I am done with HTC.

HTC is demonstrating that they can’t handle the task of organizing enough staff to maintain existing devices and extend their life. This is all part of the plan to make everyone move to a 4G smartphone, and in part work with providers to make customers have to change to new data plans that are 4G only. Next phone is going to be an iPhone I believe.

Sorry for that, I meant the Droid Incredible 2, will get the update. NOT the original Incredible.

Honestly, I hate my Incredible 2 now. I was so happy to find out they were releasing the new OS for it. I paid so much for it, so I wish it was a lot better than it is. I really hope they release it for us. I have another year on the contract and wish I could throw this at them!

I am with Ashley on this one. August will be coming to a close soon and still nothing on this. When my contract expires in March I’m done.
