Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich Bug Fix Update In the Works

Published

on

Motorola Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners were excited that Motorola and Verizon hit the Q2 release date deadline for the Ice Cream Sandwich update roll outs. However, many owners are now dealing with software issues, issues that should be taken care with a bug fix update that’s in the works.

According to a source, Verizon has begun work on an Ice Cream Sandwich bug fix update for both the Droid RAZR and the Droid RAZR MAXX. The software will apparently squash some of the bugs that users have been having after installing the new Android 4.0 software.

However, owners of both devices should remain patient. Our source says that the updates won’t be rolling out for awhile which means that those who are experiencing issues are just going to have to make due.

A bug fix is in the works for the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX.

Read: How to Fix Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich Issues.

The fact that the Motorola Droid RAZR Ice Cream Sandwich updates are plagued with bugs isn’t surprising. It’s clear that Motorola and Verizon came down to the wire as the companies managed to push the update out just shy of the Q2 deadline that Motorola imposed on the software.

Verizon had originally announced a June 22nd roll out date for the updates but it became clear, soon after, that a majority of users were without the update to ICS. It also became apparent that it was a soak test rather than a full roll out that began shortly after June 22nd.

Most Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners saw the update roll out on the last day of June. Since then, we have heard from numerous owners who have been dealing with issues caused by the update.

Earlier today, we provided users with a fix that should take care of some of the app crashes and instability issues going on with ICS but that likely won’t take care of all the bugs that users are facing right now.

So again, work on a bug fix update has begun Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX users, just don’t expect the update to roll out over night.

What, if any issues, are you guys seeing?

Battery drains faster on my MAXX. Phone is “laggy” & freezes occasionally. Apps tend to freeze and force close

not sure I like Ice Cream Sandwich yet… it has been over two hours and the phone is still overheating, draining the battery and downloading email messages for my corporate account.

Phone goes from 4g to 3g loses signal all together. Tells me I’m over my data usage and asks if i want to re-enable my data. Won’t reconnect to internet service until i reset my phone. Not happy. Worked better before ics.

Battery draining fast on RAZR Maxx since i installed ICS. Also you cannot turned off the 4G. Phone is very buggy.

You can disable 4G by going to your dialer and typing in ##PROGRAM and hitting send. A screen will pop up saying to enter a password. The password is 6 zeros, as in 000000. Hit verify. Now “Test Mode”, now hit “Next” twice and you’ll see “Preferred Network”. Change it to EVDO and CDMA only. Now just hit home. 4G is disabled until you go back in and change it. I made the number a contact and made it a quick dial shortcut on my home screen for quick access.

I would wait til all bugs are fixed. Update mostly sucks. No adobe flash support and it is laggy and battery life isnt as good. Browser freezes up alot. Just wait. I am getting a replacement! Phone with gingerbread on it til the bugs are fixed. That is how disappointed i am with it.

Hey folks! Been stuck with my Maxx and no Flash for a while now. Was in a meeting watching my neighbor with his iPhone browsing with no issue. He was using Puffin. Looked it up and installed their free version and VIOLA everything works!!! They enabled Flash during the summer olympics on their free version. If it continues like this I’m getting their paid version… No it does not look like our droid stock browsers but they don’t work either!!

I just downloaded the update to my new RAZR, but haven’t installed it yet. After reading some of the issues people are having, I don’t think I want to install ICS until the bug fix update is ready. Is there a way to delay installation of ICS, other than telling it every 24 hours “not now”?

after a week of progressively worsening performance, my razr abruptly stop taking it charge last night and slowly drained battery down to zero.completely dead and unresponsive this morning. Verizon was unable to restore it. They’ve ordered a replacement. Out of 3 devices in our family, all 3 have had severe ICS problems. I would strongly urge anyone who has not downloaded the ICS upgrade to resist it for the time being, orpossibly indefinitely

      07/08/2012 at 2:25 am

You need to go into System Settings – Accountas & Sync – And turn on up top left. That will turn all your emails to a green sync icon to the right of each account. I was having the same problem with the stock email app. I did the above, and BAAM! Worked like a charm, I know get my emails pushed to my phone with the email notification on the notification bar. Make sure you have your settings for that email account set to push emails and set it to however often you wish to have them pushed to your phone. Those settings are within each individual email accounts. Hope That helps.

I cannot get any of my emails. I have called Verizon 3 times. I have gone into the store and have to go again. I have checked all your instructions and everything is right..now what?? If someone sends me a email I do receive it but when I go home and check my computer I have twenty emails missing. I am disgusted!

After updating to ICS, my DROID RAZR maxx is having issues. When I the browser, if i check a text and go back to the browser. The page will refresh but not load. I will open up a new page and that will not load either. The same thing happens after getting off a phone call and back the the browser, it will go to refresh but not load. Also, after getting off a phone call, me signal status goes white and I have no reception. It takes at least 30 seconds to re-connect. Is anybody else having this issue?

    • Donald Hansen

      07/08/2012 at 7:41 pm

If the page you are visiting has Adobe Flash Player elements ANYWHERE within it, your browser (regardless of which one you use, stock or 3rd party), will freeze up it’s data connection. The only way to fix this is to force close the browser, or use a 3rd party app, like Fast Reboot.

  18. Daniel

    07/06/2012 at 2:44 pm

All of your problems are a result of taking an OTA update and not wiping application data and cache.

I side loaded the update weeks ago when the soak test started, BUT this required me to wipe the phone.

I haven’t had ANY of the problems you are describing. Quite the opposite ICS has DRAMATICALLY better battery life for example.

I suggest a hard reset, and if that doesn’t work a factory reset.

    • Matt

      07/06/2012 at 5:58 pm

I did a hard reset followed by factory data reset. My battery life and overheating actually got worse.

ICS itself us great, though. I’ll be really happy when I get the bugs worked out.

      07/08/2012 at 7:46 pm

Flash died with ICS. It’s a finger pointing game, now. Adobe swares in its literature on Play that it will work on phones up through Android version 4.0.x, which is Ice Cream Sandwich. Unfortunately, the ICS build released by VZW and Motorola has screwed something up royally. you would think, Motorola Mobility now being pwned by Google, that this senseless CRAP perpetrated by MOTOBLURing and tweaking for network happiness would end by now. With ICS, a lot of MOTOBLUR died, but there’s still some B.S. BLUEBLUR left over, especially in the data connections.

I’m having the same problems with my RAZR Maxx as well. Battery drain, overheating, loss of signal. Really pisses me off that flash isn’t supported with ICS! I did have the best smartphone on the market BEFORE June 30th . What a major let down this update is. I want my Gingerbread back! Keeping my fingers crossed that the bug fix update will correct some of these issues. I will definitely think twice before installing another major OS update. Good job Motorola and Verizon! :-(

      07/08/2012 at 7:49 pm

Every time Motorola promises a fix, VZW spends 2 months screwing around, behind the scenes, and rejecting every build Motorola throws at them. I hope, now that Motorola Mobility is owned by Google, that this crap-flinging contest will end. If we all had vanilla Android, like the NEXUS line, we wouldn’t be dealing with this horse crap. It’s about time Google stopped the fragmentation of Android by getting its new house in order and blasting MOTOBLUR off the map, and out of our vocabularies.

Having same battery problem. Also phone calls (I still make them) end up being dead airtime. Was hoping for a good update. ICS is already an “old” update with JB coming out. Am not to happy with Verizon Wireless (really like FIOS) for several reasons. Thinking I will look to another smaller carrier when contract runs out in 18 months :(. By then things will have shaken out and should be able to buy Win8 phone off contract. Been with Verizon since day 1 with old giant Motorola phone.

I haven’t had any of the battery issues or overheating problems. The issue I have is wifi takes a long time to connect and sometimes drops connection.

Other than that I’m happy. All these people complaining about all the problems need to shut up. Just 2 weeks ago the same people were dissing motorola and say what a crappy company it was for not releasing ics sooner.

I didn’t know what ics was until I had foolishly clicked OK to update. My last phone updated with no apparent signs. Battery life cratered and heat buildup was horrible. Cache dump helped but I still have a parade of symbols down the right side of my screen

I will gripe all I want about this Charlie fox.

The Battery Life is horrendous, after the update. The swiping between screens lags and or freezes. Several Apps, are unusable since the update. It’s crap lol

    • Tom

      07/08/2012 at 8:22 am

I hear you Jess, for me its the fact that 4G in my area is not that great and it constantly toggles between 3 and 4g killing the battery. In the previous software version I could turn off 4G not now. Does anyone have a fix for this? The Ice cream sandwhich software is killing by battery, help!

      • bobby

        07/08/2012 at 1:17 pm

I found a fix for the 4g toggle press phone then dial star pound star pound 4636 pound star pound star. Click phone info click lte/cdma/evdo then scroll up to cdma auto (prl) works for me

        07/08/2012 at 7:52 pm

There are several toggles in Google Play that will shut off 4G at a single click.

        • Tom

          07/09/2012 at 7:36 pm

Don here is the problem, the new software does not have the option of selecting CDMA Only. So if I turn off 4G it also turns of 3g

Incorrect! It would wipe all of your data and apps, yes. However, it does not roll the system back to Gingerbread. Once ICS is installed, you are restoring that OS.

    07/08/2012 at 8:58 am

Ditto : Battery life is 1/2 of what it used to be after the ICSm update. About to try the factory reset; if that doesn’t help I’m taking the phone back!

  30. franci

    07/08/2012 at 1:06 pm

I hate ICS! Voice recognition doesn’t work at all anymore. The phone lags horribly. Have trouble making calls now. The wifi randomly turns on. Resetting to factory defaults does get rid of downloads, so back them up first. It did not help with my problems at all and it does not get back to gingerbread. Verizon and Motorola and whoever else is responsible for this update suck. The really should have perfected it first.

    • Donald Hansen

      07/08/2012 at 7:54 pm

Wonderful SFW updae! NOT! I have two email addresses, one for business & one for personal. ICS wiped out one. Calles tech support @ Verizon who couldn’t reload the email; they called in Motorola tech support. No one could fix it. Give me bac the old droid, it worked fine!!

I happen to like the ICS look…I also liked the last OS (Gingerbread, I believe,) this being my first Droid phone, am always looking to improve on what’s good already. HOWEVER…after ICS update, not only have I noticed a decrease in battery life, but when I push “Apps” button, the screen will not rotate into landscape view…Gingerbread did, and I LIKED being able to scroll in either portrait or landscape, as I was in the habit of going back and forth between apps. Are these both bug issues? Or just things to get used to, as part of this new OS?

    • Donald Hansen

      07/08/2012 at 7:57 pm

I think it’s the new OS and the app pages’ layout, myself. The items are now tabbed between widgets and apps, the scroll through is no longer linear (it’s page driven), and things are starting to resemble the Samsung 3-D cube… BLARPHF!

  33. Donald Hansen

    07/08/2012 at 7:36 pm

The new ICS brings a lot of cool new features, but the one I use and miss the most, Adobe Flash Player, is toast. No embedded videos in Flash will play. They all worked fine in Gingerbread. Adobe says it will still support devices running 4.0.x, which is Ice Cream Sandwich. So, why the hell isn’t Flash working now? Every update VZW has EVER promised to go smoothly across their network has been an EPIC FAIL for me. Numerous issues with the Droid X made me want to chuck it, then the death of unlimited data upon upgrade REALLY made me want to leave VZW. After they gave me a free upgrade to the DRAZR MAXX, and let me keep my umlimited for another 2 years, I was rather content, but now, I see why they made such an offer. I, once again, am a guinea pig. This sucks!

This update is SH*T!!! Absolute garbage. I loved my razr, now I hate it worse than the Droid Eris it replaced. Here is the off the cuff complaints:

SLOW – multiple swipes for functions that used to be taken care of with one.
    SLOW – screen lag
Sound intermittently works on youtube, games, etc.
Alarm clock is complicated to work. you can no longer just whack the phone to hit snooze if you didn’t leave it on the alarm setting.
turning the phone on is a three step process now. hit side button, hit unlock, then select the area you want to open..or drag to it.. IT SUCKS!
Contacts are no longer listed in the active phone window, they are separate. HELLO DUMB_A55E5! put contacts with the phone! if i cant remember the name of a business i saved and have to look it up, i have to exit the phone interface and open the contacts interface. I cant access that directly through the phone interface.

the battery dies in about 7 hours of not much use.

the screen brightness settings don’t save.

cripes…the list goes on and on!

I hate this so much I’m seriously thinking of giving up on droid. This is such a huge step back…I truly HATE my phone now..

    • John

      07/10/2012 at 11:54 am

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Without the ability to play embedded video I might as well re-activate the eris I have sitting in a drawer that this phone replaced. This was the one and only reason I chose the razr. I could go to any website and it was just like being on a desktop pc, everything played. I have also noticed when trying to scroll it takes multiple swipes instead of one long swipe. The internet browser setup sucks, on GB when you closed all windows a new window would pop up with your home page, now when you close them all it closes the browser and you have to restart it. Not a huge deal but a matter of convenience for me. Face recognition is terrible if you don’t have your face in the same light as when you took the picture it doesn’t work and you have to put in the code anyway. I was using the sense flip clock with weather widget, cant use that anymore if I do the phone constantly searches for GPS, kills the battery, and makes the phone hot enough to feel like my pants leg is on fire when its in my pocket. If they can get the embedded flash video to work, I can probably deal with rest. I wish I would have done more research before i updated. I was looking forward to this update, but again Verizon and Motorola failed. The only positive I have noticed is the browser seems to run faster.

    07/09/2012 at 6:52 am

Brandon, how to you disable bloatware? I agree w comments above. many of the “enhancements” are annoying at best. Renaming contacts people and removing it fr phone app was empty headed. Eliminating rotation and landscape in many area makes no sense. Google needs to quit hiring engineers and hire more humans. It’s too geek oriented eg worse than worthless Google TV. Becoming more like Microsoft we’ve all suffered with for 30 years. Both of our family 2 razrs and xoom are profoundly screwed up, and 1razr bricked! Still waiting 3days for “overnite replacement”.

  38. Samantha

    07/09/2012 at 10:08 am

I really was looking forward to ICS on my Droid RAZR, but I have to say my one and only complaint with the update is my BATTERY LIFE IS TERRIBLE!!! I was at 10% with my phone only being off the charger for 6 hours!!!!! Before I could at least get 13-14 hours at most, but usually it was around 12 hours. My phone will be off the charger for a half hour and I will already see some of the battery bar missing. I’m super disappointed in this soley. At this point I would rather go back to Gingerbread just for the better battery life. This is truly the only issue I am having.
My other complaint would be the fact that I can’t switch to 3g CDMA only. I don’t have strong 4G at my house so my phone is constantly connecting to each back and fourth killing the battery worse. How can you change this?

I’m very happy with the ICS upgrade. Is it perfect? no, but I like the direction and innovation they built in with this revision. I have not experienced the lags that users have mentioned here and while I noticed the battery life has diminished somewhat, I am looking to turn 4G off (since I only have 3G in my area) and I maintain a low screen intensity level, because this seems to be the main culprit. Battery Saver Apps exist and do a decent job of managing resources for the technically challenged. I only call them this, because that’s what they call themselves, you know if you are in this category.
    Have a nice day!

Mine is horrible, It worked fine, and I was excited to get the ICS update. Since I’ve installed it, I get about a two hour battery life in standby, Google+ won’t stop running even when I stop it and is attributing to that issue, and it is over heating, it is constantly hot, I’m worried my phone is going to be ruined if it keeps running like this.

So I am experiencing the low battery life and the app crashes but my main problem is my gallery will not open now. I click it and when I open my library it says “my gallery has stopped working” no other option just click ok and the message closes. Any ideas please!?!?!

I had a lot of issues too, but I have worked through most of them, however my main problem is the same as benB…my gallery will not open now. I click it and I can view the camera roll, or my online pics, but if I click to open my library I get the message “my gallery has stopped working” with no other options than to click ok which just closes the message and takes me back to home screen. Does ANYONE know what the fix for this is??? Any ideas please!??!!

I have the same complaint as Donald Hansen in regards to the loss of playing video dependent on Adobe Flash Player (Amazon Prime Instant Video) with my Razr. Im ok with the other enhancements, but i really miss streaming my video on my phone.
If i could roll it back, i probably would. I hope Motorola comes up with a fix soon. Or, anyone have any solutions?

I like the look. However, battery life is about 4 hours, the phone is always very warm. I can’t get into my picture library and can’t get into my song library. Haven’t gone any further, so there may be other problems. Taking the phone back to Verizon tomorrow.

I was stoked about getting the ICS upgrade, now I want it gone. No battery life, apps crash. This is why testing the software before releasing it helps. Didn’t we all learn that with MS Vista?

Did the update. the phone looks cool to me. but now I keep loosing the network so I cant use it as a phone…IT keeps turning the screen on every once and a while, I couldn’t use it so I don’t know about the battery. tec support couldn’t fix it so they are sending me a new one and told me don’t do the update yet… they must know something. also still waiting so they must be backed up sending out new phones..
I’m back with my buggy fascinate witch I can’t stand. next phone will probably be a iphone.

My Droid RAZR was super hot today for the first time since I bought it months ago. I’m not happy with the fact that I can’t view my AOL emails through the INSTALLED email app. I can’t find an AOL email app in the Google Play Store, either. I can see who email is from, date and time, but nothing in body of email is there (even from emails that I received days/weeks ago). I’m also unable to find out where to go to clear the CACHE and what area they moved the “end apps” to. OMG. I’m going to call my husband and tell him NOT to do the upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich!

If you long press home it acts like a task manager and you can swipe all running apps closed. One of the only useful features I’ve found on while on ics. To clear the cache hit menu>settings> privacy& security> and you can clear it in there.

I am having so many problems since this update. Runs slower for one, eats battery juice for another. Major problem is I can’t access the camera. It will take a picture of a screenshot but otherwise will not open the camera. All camera apps don’t work. I uninstalled all of those on the off chance there was a conflict, no such luck.
Battery life is horrible. Went from 22 hours to 5 if I don’t use the phone, 2 hours if i open any apps or talk. What good is this phone now. Factory data reset only helped stop phone from freezing up every 5 minutes. Now it only freezes once or twice a day.
RE above comments: If I long press home it does not act like a task manager and allow swipe of apps to close as stated above. Very frustrated.

The battery life on my RAZR has always been crap and I haven’t noticed a difference since the update. I think it looks great and everything still runs smooth. The only problem I’ve had thus far is that the video recorder and player aren’t working.

WOWSERS. Everyone, THANKS for the cautionary tales.
    Two Questions:
    1) Could people PLEASE include the version of ICS you have? I’ll need to know a better version is out before *I* update! (My phone says it’s ready to update to 6.16.211.en.us)
    2) Does anybody know a way to “downdate” back to Gingerbread?

ICS is UGLY and keeps getting worse. Downloaded yesterday thinking it was a ‘standard’ update not a full version I’m going to screw up your phone update. After the update BATTERY LIFE WENT INTO THE TOILET. Charged the phone all night and the battery was dead by 10AM, not conducive for work or getting in touch with the kids.

Text messaging kept coming up when not asked for, swipes are confused and keep calling the wrong app, i now have 2 work email accounts which can’t make up their mind as to which has the right emails, personal email is confused and reports the same email twice.

REALLY BAD decision on Google and Verizon’s part to release such an abomination to bunch of technophiles who understand usability and clearly recognize ‘UN-USABILITY’!

And to think we actually pay these people on a monthly basis for screwing up our devices.

I can’t agree more with most of you. I took my first Razr Maxx back and they gave me another one. told them everything it was and wasn’t doing. It also would get SO HOT that I couldn’t touch it with my finger let alone hold it up to my ear to talk on it. The new one doesn’t get AS HOT but it is just as slow and buggy. Battery lasts 6 hrs MAXX???? to me it should be called Razr MIN… :-(
I have installed Data disabler and CMDA to run in 3G
What in the world good is it to have a SMART PHONE when you have to DUMB it down????
Either come up with Bug Fix or tell us how we can go back to Gingerbread. ICS really stinks

When I got my 1st Max after buying it online I could not power it up afer transfering all contacts and apps. I had to take it to a store for a “strait up trade”. Their Max would not power up either. Then they downloaded the ice cream sandwich and since then everything has been going good. ( knot on wood). The phone is GREAT and I am getting to love it. It has more and better features on it then my Droid II . I just love the way it works and I really need the battery life it is giving me.

I put ICS on my Razr Maxx and don’t like the way it has changed contacts and notifications. I contacted Verizon and Motorola to see what I had to do to restore GB and Motorola support claimed that it was “not possible” for technical reasons — as though the upgrade had somehow changed the hardware on the phone so the old OS could no longer be installed. I don’t know if they are simply telling a bold-face lie or really the support techs really are that clueless. In any case, I received no satisfaction from them.

Ok, so I just uploaded this morning and downloading and installing ICS brought my battery life down to 80% now it is just after lunch and I am already less than 20%. I usually leave the office and go home with at least 50-60% depending on usage. What gives? I love the new features but the main reason I bought this phone was for the battery life. Hopefully they fix this immediately!

Just downloaded and installed ics this morning. Love the new look and features, no problems with the battery life so far (RAZR maxx) only issue I’m having is the failure to use GPS. Waited a good thirty minutes for it to find a GPS signal and it couldn’t locate a single satellite… what gives? That’s the main thing I use considering I just moves to a new state and now the Google navigation and vzw navigator are unreliable due to the ics update.

How long did it take for the ICS upgrade to install? On my RAZR it took close to a half hour to download on 4G, then my phone has been stuck on the Dual Core startup screen for more than a half hour now. Should it take this long? I’m afraid to touch it since OS software updates crashed three of my old Androids in the past.

After “factory data reset” as several have recommended, my battery is better than before ICS update. Make sure your contacts are backed up on Google or Verizon back-up assistant and select option to keep doc files. Like any OS upgrade on PC, tablet or phone, things break and best way is clean install. Take advantage of the following link to push apps back on your phone: https://play.google.com/apps

I downloaded ICS on my Droid RAZR 3 days ago and have had no problems so far (I’m not a power user though.) I like the new interface and battery life is much better than with Gingerbread. Download took about 30 minutes over 4G and install was trouble free. Started day @ 100% charge, a few phone calls, a few youtube videos and web surfing and a few games of Angry Birds and 9 hours later I’m @ 80%. I’d be interested to know what issues others are having. My only complaint is that I can’t choose between 4G and 3G like I could before.

I have Maxx and ICS and I’m not having any problems with my phone. The battery seems to last a tad longer, contacts are fine just a different feel. I use my phone a lot and have put it through the paces to see how the battery would respond. It’s been fine.

This stupid ICS update has screwed up my phone (Razr). Battery hot, crashes, facebook not working, can’t get phone to ring out loud (only vibrate), locks up when going into some settings (e.g. volume), eats my battery, can’t find bluetooth when plugged into power supply, and in general pisses me off. I can’t believe I am actually considering going back to an Iphone. I hate the way they control things so tightly (can’t use phone as a hard drive, must use itunes, etc.).

I had these exact same symptoms after upgrading to ICS on that last day in June. Took my MAXX to Verizon who was going to give me a replacement, but for kicks, decided to call technical support from the store. After going through 2 levels of service, we finally did a factory reset (after backing up contacts). The phone works great now. Seems faster all around, battery doesn’t get hot, and seems to last a bit longer on a charge even with 4G LTE. It seems a factory reset is a good solution to try.

Battery life definitely isn’t what it was with GB, though it’s much better since the factory reset. Folks complaining about wifi turning on by itself didn’t have the savvy to go into their settings to turn off the “alert me to new wifi”… LoL…otherwise it’s just like a computer getting new OS software…get used to it & it’s just fine. There’s def some things I would have left the same, but overall, I happen to like the new stuff. Other than the battery issue, no complaints. Out with the old, in with the new…way of the world, breddeh…

Horrible. My phone (RAZR) now only last about 6 hours if I’m not doing anything on it at all and that’s using Juice Defender. My corporate email won’t push; it will only update after 9:00 at night which is causing major productivity issues since I’m in outside sales. And it is slower than anything I’ve ever used in regards to Smartphones. Never been more frustrated in my life. My old OS was GREAT!!!

ICS on RAZR MAXX issues. Battery life went from exemplary before to just barely OK after. It lasts less than half the time before the “upgrade”. Signal strength is a maximum of 2 bars regardless of where you are. Previously only saw the 1 or 2 bars when I was inside a concrete and steel building at work. The phone does get noticeably “warmer” at times. There have been times when the phone would not let me answer an incoming call. It’s not as lightening fast as before the upgrade, but so far at least I can live with that. Still finding and trying to work out some app issues, but all of my critical apps have worked fine without any tweaking. Bottom line – I enjoyed the phone before ICS and hopefully they will come up with some “Fix” so I will enjoy it again!

Upgraded my Droid Razr Maxx to 4.0 ICS and now my bluetooth earpiece loses connection and re-acquires connection every 1-2 minutes while on a call and tethered to my laptop. It never had this problem before I upgraded. My co-worker also has the Razr Maxx and he confirms his phone never had this problem prior to the upgrade. Sucks. Definately a downgrade that I can no longer use the Internet and talk at the same time. Also, the fact that there is no way to toggle between 3G and 4G is another downgrade. I knew I should not have upgraded, but my phone kept prompting me to upgrade which in essence was a downgrade. “I’m never flying United again.” “I’m not shopping at Walmart” “I’m not buying Microsoft” “I’m not upgrading Android” -Big business has us by the balls and nothing we can do unless we want to say one of these stupid sayings that are impossible to really do.

My battery life SIGNIFICANTLY drains w/out even using it…and if I use it it’s all over. I’d say 5 hrs if using it tops. Another EXTREMELY irritating thing is that I can’t adjust my notifications with the volume keys anymore….only the call volume. In order to adjust your notifications you have to go into the settings. SO IRRITATING! No app can fix this yet (other than making it a little easier by putting a volume adjuster [best app so far is Volume control] in your notification bar which still takes a few steps). It does feel like a new phone, but I’d much rather have my battery life back and be able to adjust my texting volume in one step opposed to about three. Oh gingerbread how I miss you!!

After the ICS update on my droid razr maxx. The camera wouldn’t work, The voice commands keep saying “out of memory”, The volume controls randomly stop working so I have no ringer or sound control. The battery life has reduced, Apps crash more, Contacts were in an odd place or harder to navagate to from the dialer. Signal was reduced. I want to thank Verizon and Motorola for trashing a perfectly good phone with your untested updates. At least Verizon was nice enough to send me a Samsung Galaxy S III 32gb in white. The button shaped->| now functions as a spacer as opposed to a “next field” function. The most problems are with the browser. I go to my bank account, and to view any account I have to open in new tab. The hyperlinks do not open.
The keyboard is different and not in a good way
You cannot see your list of contacts from the Dialer.
There are many more things but I’m writing this on my phone and its pissing me off.
Bottom line is ICS was released far too early for RAZR. I wanna downgrade!!!!!!!

It took you longer to type all that than it did for me to find a solution an fix the problem. As much as you may want to avoid it. Do a factory reset. It cures all the problems. My razor maxx is back to normal an working great running ICS..

  86. josh

    07/17/2012 at 6:08 pm

A factory reset is the cure. At first ics was great on my razr but about 2 days in i started noticing lots of bugs a little bit of everything people complained about. I did a factory reset and back up assistant downloaded most of my apps and stuff back afterwards. It was a little time consuming but it fixed my problems. Clearing the cache is like a sissy reset. To really fix the problem get rid of everything.

Ok I was accused of being rude. sorry but my only point is everyone that seems to be having problems with ICS just seem to be posting them here. Is anyone reading what is here first? I don’t see anyone posting the fact that they did the factory reset an it didn’t work ..so I am going to ask did anyone do the actual factory reset ( Not the recovery trick ) an not have it work? Don’t you think its worth a try before you start complaining ? the way I see it you got 3 options try the factory reset .. wait for the Update fix sometime next month or send your phone back so they can replace it with someone else’s refurbished piece of junk.. I did the reset along with many others an ICS and my Razar Maxx Rocks now.. Good Luck !!

Adam Mills originated this post not primarily about fixes. The whole point of this page is to hear “What, if any issues, are you guys seeing?”

It’s useful to hear about all the possible things that people see, regardless of whether the reset will help. It helps to know what is an ICS problem versus something else.

Say I dropped my phone in nacho sauce… is that why my phone’s soft keys hang after about 50 keystrokes and then the power button stops working? Or is that something other people see after upgrading to ICS. And so on. (Funny thing is that I did drop my phone in nacho sauce a couple months ago, but it caused less, nary any, problems than the ICS upgrade.)

When I try to watch anything that has to do with flash player, the video never plays, and then when I try to change the website, the browser just locks up and doesn’t load to the website. Ex: watchsmallvilleonline.com and southparkstudios.com the video never plays and then try going to a different website then the browser just locks up. By the way I have the Droid RAZR, with the new ICS update, every thing use to work good on the Gingerbread and I loved it that way but now ICS is like a downgrade to my phone.

I have the exact same problem on my Droid RAZR MAXX and the only thing I can find out is that Adobe is no longer going to support Android devices with an OS of 4.0 or above. Apparently they are going to focus on something called Adobe Air, but I can’t find anything that actually says what Adobe Air is supposed to do.

I think we got screwed with this ICS “update.”

I left a comment today. it’s not here anymore could it be someone deleted it? all I said was I don’t know why people are blaming Motorola ..last time I checked they didn’t develop ICS they just make hardware. my Razar maxx is still working fine after the hard reset.. battery life is excellent. no issues at all so far.

I so excited when Ice Cream Sandwich came out but now I regret to upgrade it. My screen flicking on and off when I move from one screen to another. Can not hangup my phone sometime and have to do a soft reset. I should wait. I use to like my Android Razr a lot now I hate it.

The only issue I have had is my phone would freeze and then restart about once a day. Wiped the cache and have had no problems since. Battery life is amazing, flash works fine. Have the Maxx, unplugged it Tuesday at 330pm and today at 330pm (48hrs) still have 40%… no problems here…

Lol, i was thinking i was the only person who was having problems. I just read all the posts and its dead on. my problems consist of..

    *Overheating when in standby.
*keyboard not working at all at completely random times
*Battery will last an hour in standby
*Slow, sluggy, and glitchy to un-usability
    *Confused key presses
*Poor reception, dropped calls and wifi disconnects

… Im very displeased by this update. I almost threw my phone at the wall last night and still want to because of how confused the thing is. I do like the look but its anti-user at this point. I have not tried the factory reset yet.. (my only option at this point) so ill give it a shot and get back to you all asap…

So I am reading all the comments and most seem bad. Can anyone explain to me how my phone automatically downloaded ICS? I was sitting in a meeting today and my phone in my pocket started to get really hot to the point where I pulled it out. I came to find that ICS was downloading and installing on its own even though I had auto updates turned off. Now I am experiencing a lot of the same issues and I didn’t even know what I was being saddled with.

Mine auto uploaded ICS, too. If there was any way to reverse it, I would. The problems are numerous and it has made using my phone miserable where I once enjoyed it. So much for turning off the auto updates, huh?

My battery life is draining a bit faster, but it’s no big deal since I have a Maxx and was able to go 3 days before charging. Now I just have to charge every other day. The BIG issue I have been having is in my texting. Since ICS downloaded, when I get pics texted to me, they take forever to download (as in 30 minutes to an hour). It is really getting old!

Quick update: after reading several comments on this site, I did a cache wipe, then factory data reset TWICE, and my Maxx seems to be back to normal, or at least close. Charged it up last night, took it off around 2am,and I’m just now having to put it back on charge, so I got about 16 hours. This seems to do the trick, though I agree with the folks saying we shouldn’t HAVE to do this, much less have to go and SEARCH for remedies to fix what shouldn’t have been a problem to begin with. On the flip side of that….ya gotta be smarter than the machine, people. Education is the key.. LoL

  104. Felipe

    07/22/2012 at 6:01 pm

So in the spirit of what are all the bugs people are seeing, here is my list. I’m in the process of doing a factory reset so maybe I’ll reply to myself to say what happens. Not sure how long till I know if all things are OK though.

–PC no longer recognizes phone via USB, USB icon does not appear in phone’s notification bar (so can’t control USB mode between Charge Only, Mass Storage Mode etc.) THIS IS THE WORST SINCE IT MEANS NO BRUTE FORCE OLD SCHOOL DRAG’N’DROP BACKUP.

    –Phone does charge though.

–At least 25% of calls are not received (I’ll never really know how many) and do not show up in the missed call log. Another 25% may show up in the log two hours later (if the phone has not died yet)

–Gmail on my phone used to refresh and indicate messages received FASTER than on my PC. At this moment my phone says I have 118 emails, 12 new messages. Really there are 115 emails, 1 new message. The others were read/deleted a couple of hours ago.

–Phone freezes in typing mode during texts and emails. (Maybe this would happen with any use and these are just the most common ones)

–Once it freezes no buttons of any sort work. Phone then sleeps in normal time but cannot be woken. Within a couple of hours the battery will be totally dead, which can only be ascertained by trying to boot the device.

–Occasionally the stylized word “droid” appears in the center of the screen on the way to its batteryly death. This only ever occurs when the phone is not being used and it apparently freezes.

–Once the phone has frozen the only recourse is booting as follows: Power+DownVolume held for at least 10 seconds. This leads to the usual animated boot sequence, which does always succeed. Probably 7 out of 10 times the phone will freeze again within a few minutes of attempting to text/email/surf.

–Phone is always at least a little more than snuggly warm… downright sweaty if in my pocket.

–When picking the phone up randomly the battery is usually so low that the boot will only work if the phone is plugged in.

–Even without freezes (so without any use by me I mean), the phone battery dies in about 6 hours maybe as many as 9 hours and as few as 2 vs. my usual day and a half with fairly light usage (No netflix or extended Music playing)

–Battery usage always shows the OS to be using >85% of the battery. Granted the display isn’t working much, but still… an OS alone running a phone down in 6 or fewer hours?!? (forced 3G only, no WiFi, 30second display sleep)

Just annoying, though not necessarily bugs:
    –No more caps lock :-(

–Camera shutter does not go off any faster, maybe slower, than before (ICS claims instant shutter response)

–The whole thing with there being no easy NATIVE way to switch to CDMA-3G only. (LTE OnOff is a good free workaround app)

This is the reply to my own post to note the effects of a factory reset.

It doesn’t seem that the reset did much of anything. MAYbe I had a few hours of fewer crashes/hangs, but I doubt it. So here’s the list of problems still present (briefer but pretty much encompassing all the the problems I had before).

–USB icon not appearing when I plug in to my PC
–Thus PC doesn’t see phone as a valid device
–Battery life is between 6 and 8hrs (sleeping the phone had no effect. Might have even made it worse)
–Phone hangs during any keyboard input. Seems to do it around 50 characters, but it is not consitent
–Phone has hung a few times during incoming and dialing phone calls. Recent calls does not record any inbound call while the phone is hung.

mike s — agree with him, if you got here and did not follow instructions above, please do.
i too was anxious, 30 minutes after upgrade…oops! but then i took a deep breath, cleaned my caches, and performed a system reboot.
after 2 full discharge/recharge cycles battery life is approaching 24 to 28 hours, better than the 16 to 18 i had on GB.
in the last 4 days i have noticed home seen lag like on Sony and LG phones. i am still digging around to see if there is an easy fix besides the reboot. longest uptime on ICS is just gt 9 days; GB longest uptime was 34 days. all other updates and features seem to be good on VZW (minus the over zealous 3G/4G switching…

I used to be able to connect my phone to my car radio via USB and play music off my phone while it charged. After upgrading to ICS I now get a message on the car radio that says “format not supported”.

  110. Felipe

    07/23/2012 at 2:24 pm

Roman, I wonder if what you’re seeing is the same problem I have with the USB connection. I used to transfer files over the USB cable, but now my PC “does not recognize the connected device”. The phone also does not show the USB connection symbol in the notification bar up by the symbols for 3G, WiFi etc. Before the update, I selected the symbol to define the USB behavior (Charge Only, Windows Media Sync, USB Mass Storage, PC Mode). Can’t do that now since there’s no symbol, and I’m pretty sure that your car and my computer don’t recognize the phone because the phone is not presenting itself in the correct mode.

Likely it is stuck in charge-only mode. Have you tried to connect to your computer via USB?

    I have the following issues:

    1. The battery over heats ramdomly
    2. GPS signal wont work the way it use too before the upgrade (location takes a while to came up and only cames up when I put a to and from points)
    3. The battery won’t last as long as before.

    Hope it gets fixed

After the ics update on my razr my battery only lasts about 4 hours. 4g and 3g date cut out all the time. Called verizon about 3 weeks ago and was told to do a factory reset. Didn’t solve the issues. Called again and was told they were going to check my area for problems with the signal strength and they would get back to me in less than 10 days. After no call, i called again yesterday and was told they were aware of the issue and they would have an update by the end of the month. This is happening to both razrs on my account. Why pay $60 for data a month if it cuts out 80% of the time. Verizon should give us some kind of credit.

  114. Happy Razr ICS user

    07/26/2012 at 11:16 am

I can honestly say that I haven’t encountered any of the problems that everyone has received. After the update, I did a reset on my phone and wiped everything. I reloaded my apps from the Play store and reloaded my pics/videos.

I suggest running these 2 applications and in no way is this Spam or an attempt to advertise.

    1. Download Juice Defender Ultimate for $5 from the Play Store. It will be the best investment for your phone. The App doubles my battery life on Gingerbread and has worked flawlessly in ICS with the same results, if not better.

    2. Download the 4G toggle from the Play Store – It is called LTE on/off – HTC Thunderbolt. I know that is says Thunderbolt, but it works flawlessly on the Razr and will allow you to keep a 3G connection until you manually restart your phone. Even then, its a simple click of a button after a restart.

Between these 2 Apps, I have fantastic battery life. I’ve never experienced any lag or notification errors either. I would attribute that to the reset though. Give those 2 apps a shot because if you do, you will be as happy as you were before the update.

Jeez, where to start…took my taks manager so now I have to force close apps individually…sapps battery in half a day after full charge…apps crash all the time, lags, web is slow and crashes…this ICS is GARBAGE!

  116. Larry

    07/26/2012 at 12:06 pm

I’ve mentioned earlier that ICS screwed up both razrs and a xoom on our account. One of the razrs was bricked, and couldn’t be restored by Verizon and was replaced. I know stuff like this happens… But verizon/Motorola lack of response is worse and inexcusable. Like the airlines, and they’ve left us on the tarmac with no info and no help. They should have promptly acknowledged the problem, and publicly stated when and how they’d correct it. Their posture is reminiscent of suffering thru 30 years of Microsoft dog crap, and their inability or unwillingness to correct anything.

After the update to my phone (Razr MAXX) it would no longer communicate with my bluetooth in my X5 BMW to show the phone book from my phone. I could still answer incomeing calls (by hearing the phone ring and not car system) but could not make any outgoing calls through the bluetooth steering wheel controls. So I tryed several differant things but now after I have removed it from the cars system completly and trying to reinstlling into the cars system .. I can’t even get them to pair !! So I now have NO Connection of the phone to the cars bluetooth system. I can’t beleave they would roll out an update just because of a release date with problems. $65000.00 BMW or $300.00 phone .. which one do you think I will be getting rid of ????????????

When I first upgraded, everything was broken. I did a factory reset, which was certainly annoying but it solved all problems.

Now my biggest issue is with text prediction. On the old OS there were five or six options presented to me for the next predicted word. Now there are only three, and the phone NEVER guesses a word without my giving it the first letter. The old phone made great guesses all the time. Anyone know what’s up with this?

Tried Adobe Air + Adobe Flash Player 11 before, didn’t work. Trying them again, still doesn’t work. I’ve done 3 factory resets since having ICS inflicted upon my phone. It still sucks, swishes and swallows. If this imaginary “fix” ever materializes I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t just cause new and/or different issues.

Seriously thinking of testing the bullet resistance of the RAZR MAXX.

I noticed the battery dying more like the rest of you on my razr maxx. The battery is the very reason I bought the phone, so to have this capability ruined is very frustrating.

However, I have a side effect that no one else seems to have. The moment I downloaded ICS, I no longer can connect to motocast USB to sync with my windows media player. It used to work like a charm, now it just won’t recognize my phone. It charges, but I get the motocast usb error saying it won’t recognize my phone. I went to the motorola link it gave me and followed the steps like making sure my device was selected as a media device, that it was unlocked, and that USB debugging was disabled. I am using the usb cable that came with the phone. I tried uninstalling the device manager and motocast and re installing, but no dice.

Anyone have any idea? I am using Windows 7 home premium.

I can’t say I love the feel of ICS, but its doing OK, with one exception. I live Mountain time zone, no where near a zone change. When I enter a calendar event, then go in to edit it, it switches to Pacific. My home and calendar time zones are set to Mountain, so it alarms at the correct time, but shows the pacific time slot in the daily view which is no good when I’m trying to plan my day by overview.

      08/08/2012 at 12:19 am

The reason your browser crashes or just won’t play video is because for whatever stupid reason Google and Motorola decided to do away with Adobe Flash support. Some people have had luck downloading Flash Player on their phones from the Play Store, me not being one of them. The YouTube app is the only way I can watch videos. Unless the video is in HTML5 format, which ICS supports. Apparently HTML5 is the new thing and is going to make Flash obsolete.

I would recommend trying to do a factory reset. Save all the things that you can such as pictures on the internal storage. Also it doesn’t hurt to remove the sd card while you’re doing it. Sometimes phones don’t upgrade operating systems well.

A factory reset, clear the phones partition/ cache/ (google the directions), letting charge run all the way down then charge all the way to full before turning it on worked out most of the glitches for me. I now only have to restart my phone once every few days/once per week or so cuz my notification bar gets stuck….but that’s worth it for me!

The whole thing is buggy!! They need to update to the next release and not waste time with ICS anymore. 4.1 (i forget the name) is much improved. They are the worse people I’ve ever seen on bugs and getting updates completed. This is a perfect example of why Apple thinks Android is a joke.

Accidentally hit install last night after avoiding the update for a couple of weeks. The number one thing I most hate about Droid is the forced updates. I want to be able to update when I want to without being badgered to do it.

So far battery life is about half of what it used to be. A lot of this has to do with the display. It used to make up aprx 40% of battery usage, now it’s 70-80%.

My phone gets hot which can lead to locking up. I had that happen several times before the update so I’m worried it will happen more often now.

I don’t like the new Google screen. Can anyone explain the reasoning behind moving the search icon to the bottom of the screen and putting the delete icon in it’s place??? Is that so people will get pissed and smash the phone so they have to buy a new one???

Taking contacts out of the phone app is just stupid.

Its more difficult to delete apps. Instead of deleting them right from the app drawer I now have to go to manage apps. Another pointless change.

I don’t like the new start screen that takes an extra step to open. However I did find that I can turn off the boot screen completely.

I also miss the ability to hide apps. I can disable some apps but there are many that can’t be. Previously those could be hidden but no more.

There are some new features i like so overall it doesn’t suck but I still regret installing it and i would revert to Gingerbread if possible.

TODAY VERIZON DOWNLOADED THIS TO MY PHONE AND IT CRASHED MY PHONE TOTALLY TODAY!

this morning at 7 AM, I was in bed checking e-mails, and social web sites. This is common for me. At about 7:10, I got a message from verizon I need to up date my new softwear…like always I hit “accept” THIS WAS AN VERIZON MESSAGE NOT A FAKE ONE….I went in and left the phone on the night stand as it did “it’s thing”…I come out and my phone was totally LOCKED UP!

This phone is the NEW DRIOD 4 G and I have only had it since April of 2012.

I drove into work and the phone was nothing but a brick! I took it to my local Verizon store and the guy said, “OH YOU DOWN LOADED ICS HUH”….I said, “I have no idea what that is but yea I downloaded the new softwear verizon sent me..” He explained that this softwear has been a problem for several phone types in the verizon inventory (this was also confirmed by a sprint sales person-more on him later!).

The verizon tech mess with my phone for an hour-I lost two highly important calls in this time. Then he called Tech support- and they looked at it for another period of time-In all about 2 hours! The soultion was to be without my phone for 2 or 3 days. I have been a verizon account holder with the same number since the mid-1990′s and never had a late payment or issue. I am the customer they want!

Verizon was not only inflexable, I was going to loose business becuase my cell phone is for work! When is became apparent that Verizon was NOT GOING TO GIVE ME A NEW PHONE, THEY COULD NOT FIX THIS PHONE-MY PHONE WAS NOT EVEN CHARGING BECUASE OF THE INTERNAL PROBLEMS,I walked down to sprint.

I told the guy my phone had “crashed” and he laughed, “oh you down loaded the ICS softwear..why they forced that on customers is beyond me”-SO THIS IS NOT ME-IT IS VERIZON! I explained my problem and I needed a phone.

Sprint’s charge was 85.00 once I gave them my verizon phone and I got a new phone on the spot! I walked back down to Verizon-got my junk phone-took it to Sprint and he looked at it and said, yea your phone is not even holding a charge now.

Long story short, after a long history with Verizon, I dumped them and ended my service with them becuase of their new soft wear-ICE CREAM SANDWHICH! My phone was so trashed they could only get my contacts- my music, and photos were all gone and the phone was not even charging at a reasonable rate.

I expaect to get some nasty letter from Verizon now for ending my contract with them-but that is fine! I am able to handle that.

THIS SOFT WEAR TRASHED MY PHONE!

ICS update has killed my battery life, crappy signal strength and overheats phone to where you can barely even hold it! Bugs? Hardly. Developers had their backs against the wall to meet a deadline to push ICS out and screwed users into believing they were getting a sweet update. Instead we got a horrible update that is ruing a $600 phone. Motorola and Verizon need to pull head out of backside and square this crap away!
Most, if not all users of smart phones rely on it for everyday use. When you mess with how it operates by pushing out an update that f** ks it all to hell, don’t be surprised when floods of calls come in wanting explanations or money off their bill for crappy service!!!
Get it together! Really….this aint rocket science!
    Damn!!!!!

I’m not too phone savy so maybe all of my experience doesnt’ apply, but I seem to have lost sound for playback of video recordings (youtube & such). Many settings change, some I can’t locate to change back. Bat life & signal strength extremely shortened, lowered. Lag time between press & screen reaction. Sadly, I typically DON’T load updates until much later (after everyone has identified issues & dev has fixes.) Not sure why I handled this differently… but I am not surprised at my unhappiness. To me, that last statement says everything.

I am using a Motorola Razr Maxx running ICS and it is the worst OS I have experiences since the release of Android. My device worked great before ICS update. I not only have terrible battery life with a 3300 MHz battery but it over heats. Signal strength is terrible. I cannot believe they changed the notification of missed calls from red to gray. They made the icon for Exchange emails the same color as the POP email. The notification for Exchange email is the same color as POP email, Gray. Can it get any more boring? It was nice to be able to tell the difference as to what email has mail as well as tell the difference between the icons without having to double check because they look exactly the same. I think the worst part for me though is the fact to place a call sometimes can take over 60 seconds. When I dial a phone number and hit send, it just sits there and will not call out. I have had to power cycle my device once 50 percent of the time and sometime twice before the device will place a call. I have even tried to use voice dialing and I have the same results. This is completely unacceptable. I also cannot go back to my previous OS. I am stuck with ICS no matter how bad it performs or doesn’t perform. Android has taken three steps backswords with ICS. Then Google has the nerve to say, be patient. Motorola wants me to reset my phone back to factory settings and set it all up again. They don’t seem to care that it takes me over six hours to do this because none of my apps are backed up like in iTunes so I have to write down what I have and re download them. I have be anti-Apple but the iPhone 5 4G LTE cannot get here soon enough. Screw Android!

I guess there’s still no bug fix update? I have not installed ICS to my razr maxx yet. I heard there was to be a bug fix update in mid august, but can’t find any reports of one. Guess I”ll keep waiting. I don’t really care about having the most recent OS, I just want a fully functioning phone. :)

It absolutely does what it spent have is the “AUTO SRTTING”. You can put it on Ltd/coma and leave it and 4 g is then off. Want it back on do same procedure in reverse. I can’t say if this is a fix for battery life but you can setit to 3g only.

Droid RAZR – battery life sucks, have to charge it a couple times a day on average. Basic phone functions are unreliable, like pressing ‘ANSWER’ and immediately having the call disconnected (nice feature, eh?). Good way to turn Android users into IPhone users.

like many of you I also did the download…. what a big mistake ……don’t don’t don’t do it!!! I have most of the same symptoms everybody else is having with the slow screens , the screens lagging, intermittent sound issues NO Flash Player, contact list missing from phone, keyboard issues, swipe screens freezing, can’t open multiple windows, connection drops, WiFi disconnects, diminished battery life and who knows what else I haven’t discovered yet. I’ve also read most of the comments posted on here that date all the way back to June. today is October 22nd and the piece of shot download is still happening and Verizon have no clue when and if it can be fixed. I use to love my razor now I hate it and want to smash it against the wall. shame on you verizon!!

I updated mine when I first saw the new version. I expected it to be even better, but am very, very unhappy with it. I have the same issues other people are talking about. Especially with lag/lockup issues and the battery life being the worse. Went from the battery lasting a few days idle/active to maybe 8hrs idle/active.
I want ICS off my phone or a patch! It is now Decemeber and have not yet seen a fix. About to factory reset.
