Droid RAZR & Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich Bug Fix Update Badly Needed

Published

on

Motorola Droid RAZR and Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX owners are still dealing with major issues that arose after the devices were updated with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at the end of July.

For the past month, many Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners have been experiencing a multitude of issues on the devices, both of which now run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

And while we have heard about a potential bug fix in the works, nothing has arrived yet leaving owners to deal with extremely buggy devices in need of a software update that squashes the multitude of bugs.

The Ice Cream Sandwich issues for Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners have been all over the board. Some people are experiencing minor issues while some have told us that the bugs make the devices unusable until Verizon decides to push out a bug fix.

Droid-RAZR-MAXX-Review08-620x4812111

The Droid RAZR badly needs an ICS bug fix update.

We’ve heard from one Droid RAZR MAXX owner who has not had access to email on this phone ever since he upgraded the device to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Another user of the Droid RAZR MAXX says her phone cannot hold down a charge to save its life and that emails, again, are not working properly.

Other owners have been complaining their screen locks up, that apps on the home page keep disappearing, and that using My Gallery, one of the photo features on the phones, has become such a disaster that it has become unusable.

We’ve also heard from a number of people who say that their keyboard is now buggy and that it has become hard to send out text messages.

These aren’t the only issues at work either. There is a large list out there.

Unfortunately, it’s still not entirely clear when the Droid RAZR & Droid RAZR MAXX bug fix update is coming. We’ve heard mid-August and that hasn’t changed yet.

What is clear though is that device owners are suffering to the point where they are tempted to revert back to an old device or buy out of their contract.

Hopefully, some relief comes soon and as always, we’re digging to see if we can find any more updates for all of you out there that are dealing with these issues.

Anyone out there not experiencing issues?

Interesting. I’m having none of these issues from my ICS OTA-updated Droid Razr Maxx. E-mail and photo gallery are unchanged and battery life seems to be as good or better since the update. The only thing that I’ve noticed on the negative is perhaps a slight increase in lagginess in the overall OS.

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one having problems with email once the ice cream sandwich OS was installed on my droid razr. I constantly have to put my password into the phone and many many many times the phone is telling me that it can’t connect to the server, it can’t authenticate the user name and password with my provider (AOL) or it just updates account details endlessly. This getting extremely frustrating. I even called Verizon at 1 point and the customer rep walked me thru how to fix it but then by the next day the problems returned. I want the old system back. Has anyone heard if and when a fix is in the works and be delivered?????

Similar to the first post I just picked up the razr maxx 2 weeks ago and everything seems to be working with no problems. I would agree there do seem to be some odd bugs with certain widgets or apps but nothing horrible. Battery life is great. Of course I didn’t have the luxury of expieriencing the phone without ICS as it updated the day I purchsed but so far so good.

People that did thge up grade should do a factory reset, wipe the cache and davlik cache.

This solves nearly all of the problems. What is left or normally related to bad apps the user downloaded. Reset and wipe people!!

The only problem I have seen is the OS is a little laggy at times, but everything else has been fine. I haven’t had any of the other problems.

The phone does not go to sleep even with the “Sleep after 1 min” ICON has been selected in the settings. When trying to text, I used to be able to simply write a few letters of the persons name that I am sending the text too. There would be a selection of names that would appear and I could select one. This does not work anymore. I have disappearing Icons as well.

Setting selections are grayed. These selections would correct some issues. I no longer have access to these items.

Have seen none of these issues. If it helps, I did a factory reset after the ICS upgrade….from what I understand that’s darn near required for any update, especially a major one. People might want to try that.

I can’t text a message to an email address any more from my HTC Evo Design. It appears to work but the message does not arrive. Tried sending to several addresses. It worked before ICS.

I had no issues before the upgrade but have been plagued with them since. Reset the phone and cleared the cache which fixed some issues but now I have other issues. The battery life and signal strength has been poor before and after the upgrade. Verizon sent out a used phone for a replacement that didn’t even know when the sim card was inserted and have generally been of no help. The place I bought the phone, wireless world, is seeing different issues on different phones but usually a reset fixes them. Just noticed today that the navigation now changes voices on it’t own, usually for one set of directions then it goes back to the normal voice for the rest of the trip if it is a in town trip. Am thinking of either rooting the phone or buying out the contract as my bill exceeds $100 a month and I figure take the loss now rather than keep suffering.

I miss you gingerbread. Looks like the Ice Cream Sandwich has melted. On a serious note. Is there a way I can get gingerbread back without having to use a rom? I wish there was a system downdate button. I can’t believe I downgraded from gingerbread to ics.

I am having the same problem as well since the update. I took my phone to Verizon and they are sending me a new one, I was told that you can do a factory reset to fix the problem and that should make it go back to factory system for the time being.

I loved my RAZR Max when I first got it. As with everyone else waiting for the ics upgrade to arrive, I should have heeded the salesperson who was helping my son decide which phone to get. She simply said “I like the way my phone is now. I don’t want ics”. When the update came in, my phone wouldn’t upgrade. I should have let it go but I called Verizon for help after several attempts. I had to do a factory reset to upgrade! The first thing I noticed was the keyboard was smaller. The major change was battery life. Then the toggle for 4G/3G wasn’t there. My emails seem different. When I’d sync them, they started deleting! I should have followed my gut when I was having trouble installing the update and waited to see the reviews first. I’m adjusting to it. The battery is still better than the droidX2. I will wait for the bug fix, BUT I won’t be so hasty. I’ll see what the reviews say first.

My R A Z R M A X X is new & it updated the system before I loaded any apps or set up my email and other accounts. I have had not a single device problem. I just left Sprint & my EVO 4 G voice & data plan because Sprint suddenly decided to change their plan with severe restrictions on data for hotspot usage without a way to track it & stated dropping calls–so many calls were being dropped, I could not even dial a number. On top of that, their days services were constantly reverting to 3 G, requiring a call to customer service with transfer to tech service to restore 4 G connection daily (& it always took several tries, even from a land line, a Sprint itself dropped calls & never called you back. I went over all the new Android system information when I could not get the device to work with the Lapdock 100 (which was defective and sent back for repairs) & as several people have noted here, the Android system info recommends clearing the cache–if that fails, it recommend a hard reboot. If you are experiencing a number of issues, why not stop in a Verizon store & ask for help?

None of the issues, and the random locks up before are gone, battery life is about the same. I just wish I could see all five screens at the sometime by double rapping the home button.

My Razr Maxx stopped responding to my Bluetooth headset buttons when the phone is locked. If I leave the screen on, it will respond, but then it drains the battery. Also, even though I unchecked the option to do so, it will now start playing Doggcatcher when the headset is connected. The battery life is noticeably worse than before ICS, and the OS seems to lag a lot more, too.

Ryan, I just went through a difficult fiasco in an effort to get the same bluetooth problem resolved. I sent my RAZR MAXX back to Motorola and had a repair done. This did not fix the issue (got to give credit to Motorola for giving it alot of attention and a really good effort). I found your forum comment and another that indicated that the root of the problem was in ICS and not hardware. I had an idea to bypass the screen lock with an old app I had used some time back and it worked. Not only did it work but but it caused the RAZR to correct the problem within the system without the app installed :-)

The app is in Google Play and is called “Button Lock Screen” by STUDIO JMON.

Would you let me know if my fix works for you. Install the app and let it do its thing while you are listenening and controlling you music via bluetooth. If all goes well you should be able to kill / uninstall the app and you bluetooth will still work as it is was designed to.

I have a Maxx from CLARO Puerto Rico, and mine have Gingerbread still… so the phone is supposed to update itself or what? Because now with all the problems with ICS, I dont want to upgrade to 4.0

Well this is an interesting post. My RAZR Maxx running the official OTA ICS is fast and very smooth compared to the GB version. The only issue I have is the ICS keyboard. But that was easily fixed by installing Swiftkey 3. I have no email issues nor battery issues as stated in the post. Maybe I’m just lucky. =)

Lots of problems with my Maxx. Screen has frozen several times. Thankfully holding down power and up volume for 10 seconds has worked to restart it so far. The battery drains so quickly sometimes that phone nearly burns a hole in my pocket. Need a bug fix asap.

The biggest problem that I am having with mine is that I cannot stream videos from the browser internet it freezes up and you cannot do anything unless you restart the phone. And if you try to text talk into the browser internet when you hit go it deletes it and will not work. It’s unfortunate that I cannot go back to the old software until the problems are fixed ice cream sandwich update absolutely sucks!!! :(

Installed the ICS leak for Droid Bionic last week. Everything seems to be working great, no problems with email, streaming works fine, camera works fine. Overall the system feels quicker and more responsive. Battery life on 4g seems to have improved as well. It is working so well I’m tempted to just stay with it once the official ota rolls out. One interesting quirk I noticed (good, not bad) is that the phone now thinks its a razr. I used to use the bionic dock app to put the phone in dock mode without an official Motorola dock, but that app stopped working in ICS. However, I installed razr dock and it is working great (and the dock mode looks different as well)! Also, I now have access to smart actions, which are sweet! Nice to see what the razr folks have been using all along make its way over to the bionic. In all, I am thoroughly satisfied with the ICS leak for bionic.

My Droid RAZR has been absolute garbage since the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade (should read downgrade). Every app is locking up, keyboard will stop in mid sentence, phone will actually go into “runway” opening all kinds of things at once. This has to be the WORST roll out of anything I’ve ever seen. I used to speak highly of Verizon. Not so much anymore…time for an iPhone maybe!

Tried using the wired headset button? Doesn’t go to voice command anymore! Goes to music and doesn’t work well there either. Verizon tech idiots didn’t know what to do. I did a factory reset and other issues were fixed but not this! Iwant Gingerbread back.

I was very happy with my Maxx until few days ago when I cannot even initialize the camera. Factory reset did not help. I dare not touch the camera anymore because it might go crazy again. Yes the battery life is cut by 30% since the upgraded. Verizon could care less. They want me to buy a new phone.

I got my razer droid in July and since then I have wiped it x 2 and one of my email accounts, the emails still just disappear. Verizon rep said she wouldn’t upgrade to ICS, another rep wanted to send me a replacement phone – one that was used. I said heck no, i just bought a brand new phone from you. Another rep said it was y email server…different answers each time I have called

I just bought my Razr a few days ago. And my experience with ICS is HORRIBLE!!! Phone keeps rebooting when I’m not using it. It’s very laggy and sometimes my keyboard will stop working. Even my battery sucks. 4 hours at the most… :/ I hope this gets fixed soon!

I’m having trouble witha bluish gray overlay over 3/4 of my screen since installing ICS. It’s jitters and the screen is very hard to see. Verizon had me remove the Simm card, turn off the phone replace the card, put the card back. The phone has not been dropped and is in a Otterbox case. Anyone having this problem?

i upgraded from droid2 to razr-m although it worked well it never connected to 4g and seldom 3g in areas my iphone had solid 3g connection. before the 14d window to return expired i traded the razrm for razr maxx hd which worked fine early on but now has inconsistency w/ car audio bluetooth…very frustrating; my iphone seldom has these toubles; i still have a few more days to return my razr maxx for something that works….like an iphone 5.
